About Me

I'm Hannah, a History, English, and Global Politics tutor based in South London, originally from Adelaide, Australia. I've been teaching in international schools for over seven years, and I still find the subjects I teach genuinely fascinating, which I think makes a real difference in the tutoring room.

My love of history and the wider world started early. At sixteen, I spent a year as a Rotary Exchange Student in Fredericia, Denmark, living with a family I'd never met, learning to navigate a new language and culture, and figuring out who I was without the safety net of home. It taught me more about resilience, curiosity, and seeing the world from someone else's perspective than any classroom could. That experience has quietly shaped everything about how I teach.

I believe curiosity matters more than memorisation. My job isn't to hand students a set of facts to recall under pressure - it's to help them genuinely understand why things happened, how to construct an argument, and how to think clearly and write well. Those skills last long after the exam is over, although those are also exactly what IB aim to cultivate in young people.

Outside the classroom, you'll find me reading, cooking my way through whatever country I'm currently obsessed with, or planning the next trip. I bring that same enthusiasm for the world into my teaching.

I currently teach IB Diploma History and Global Politics in London, and I regularly travel across Europe for specialist IB training. I know these courses inside out, and I'd love to help your child find their way into them too.

Tutor Experience

I teach IB Diploma History and Global Politics in London, where I hold a permanent position. Before moving to London, I spent three years at Scotch College, Adelaide, teaching Years 8 through 12 across History, Humanities, and English, including SACE Stage 1 and Stage 2 Modern History, and prior to that held positions at Pulteney Grammar School across History, Geography, Humanities, and English.

My tutoring spans Years 7 to 13. With younger students, I focus on building academic writing habits early, particularly PEEL structure and the shift toward a more sophisticated, analytical style in English and Humanities. At IB level, I specialise in Global Politics and History, helping students navigate courses that demand university-level thinking. Global Politics in particular requires students to master political theories, detailed case studies, and the global concepts that thread through every assessment.

The three areas students most often need help with are essay writing and argument construction, conceptual understanding of content, and source analysis and historical thinking. These skills must be explicitly taught and consistently practised, and that is the core of what I do.

I have extensive experience working with students with SEND needs, particularly ADHD, processing difficulties, and dyslexia. These students are often highly capable but held back by materials not designed for them. I build practical, personalised tools they can take directly into the classroom, including structured note frameworks, colour-coded annotation systems, chunked essay scaffolds, and retrieval practice resources tailored to how they actually process information.

Every tutoring relationship begins with a diagnosis. I need to understand not just what grade a student is getting, but where their thinking breaks down. From there, I build a structured plan with clear goals and regular feedback for both student and family.
