About Me

I'm a teacher who genuinely enjoys helping students get to grips with subjects that can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming. I want my students to leave lessons feeling that they understand the subject better and, just as importantly, feel more confident about tackling it on their own.

I have experience working with students with autism, ADHD and a range of other special educational needs (SEN). I understand that students don't all learn in the same way, and I'm used to adapting lessons, explanations, pace and activities to suit the individual. This might mean breaking tasks down into smaller steps, using different ways of explaining a topic, providing more structure and repetition, or giving students additional time and support where needed.

I try to make lessons engaging and relaxed while still keeping a clear focus on progress. I'm attentive to what each student needs and will adapt my approach depending on whether they need help with essay writing, exam technique, revision or simply getting their head around a difficult topic.

I also have a background in journalism and audio production, including work with the BBC, which has given me a strong interest in politics, history and current affairs and helped me develop a clear and engaging way of explaining ideas.

I think the best tutoring happens when students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and thinking things through for themselves. My aim is to help students become more confident and independent learners rather than simply giving them the answers.

Tutor Experience

I'm a fully qualified teacher and tutor with QTS and over seven years' teaching and tutoring experience. I've taught in some of London's highest-achieving schools and specialise in GCSE and A Level History and Politics.

I help students get better grades by focusing on the things that really matter in exams: understanding the content, building strong arguments, analysing sources and writing effective essays. My students regularly make significant progress, with many improving by 1–3 grades and achieving A/A* results.

I tailor each lesson to the student, their exam board and what they're currently working on. Whether you need help getting to grips with a difficult topic, improving your exam technique or aiming for the top grades, we'll focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference.

Topic Expertise

My Areas of Expertise

HISTORY

I have taught History at GCSE and A Level across the OCR, Edexcel and AQA exam boards.

I help students with the areas they often find most difficult, particularly source questions, interpretations and essay writing. We look at how to approach different types of questions, use evidence effectively and build a clear argument. I break essays down into manageable steps so students understand what a strong answer looks like and feel more confident writing one.

POLITICS

I have a BA in Politics and have taught A Level Politics across the Edexcel and AQA exam boards.

I enjoy making difficult political ideas and theories easier to understand, whether that’s ideologies, the UK political system or the EU. I also help students make connections between different parts of the course and understand how political ideas relate to current events.

A big focus of my teaching is helping students move beyond simply remembering information. I want them to understand what they are writing about, think critically and use their knowledge to build strong arguments.

RS / PHILOSOPHY

I have taught Religious Studies at GCSE and A Level across the OCR, Edexcel and AQA exam boards.

I help students understand religious beliefs, teachings and texts across Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism and Sikhism, while also exploring the different interpretations within each tradition.

I also teach the philosophical and ethical side of the subject, including issues such as peace and conflict and the relationship between science and religion. We look at different arguments and viewpoints before working on how to turn that knowledge into clear, well-argued exam answers.

Client Reviews

Charles was really helpful in preparing me for my politics assessment. He has a way of explaining things that just makes them click, and he managed to get through an entire topic with me in under half an hour. I went from worrying that I didn't know enough to feeling like I knew too much.

Testimonials

"My son really wasn’t interested in Politics, and his low grade was starting to affect his confidence. However, he managed to take him from a D to a B and completely change his attitude towards the subject — he now finds Politics genuinely fascinating."

— Jay Joshi

“Charlie’s lessons in History and Politics before their exams really helped. The boys came out feeling very confident about their results and said, in their own words, that it was one of the best lessons they had ever had.”
