Hi, my name's Kian, I'm from Brighton and I'm an MSci Mathematics graduate from Imperial College London. I've been tutoring and teaching mathematics for over 5 years, helping students prepare for their university maths entrance exams, and teaching them how to think like university mathematicians. I love mathematics and I really enjoy sharing my passion for it with my students - I hope to inspire them to pursue mathematics for themselves!
I have sat entrance exams/competition papers myself, such as the MAT and AEA. I competed in rounds 1 and 2 of the British Mathematical Olympiad, placing in the top 100 in the UK in round 1.
My teaching methodology focuses on achieving deep understanding of material, rather than surface-level memorisation techniques. I find that concentrating on the latter causes students to be thrown off by small discrepancies between exam questions. Once a student understand the "why" behind a concept, they can apply it to a whole range of problems.
I was a Maths Circle Leader for Axiom Maths at Imperial College London Mathematics School, between March 2023 and July 2025. The goal of this programme is to introduce secondary-school students to novel problem-solving techniques in order to help them think more like university mathematicians.
I was also a tutor at Problem Solving Matters in the Summer of 2024, during which I helped year 12 students prepare for mathematics entrance exams such as TMUA, STEP, and MAT.
Furthermore, I privately tutor students preparing for STEP/MAT/TMUA, as well as A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.
I have extensive experience in problem-solving within the context of university entrance exams, having gone through many past papers during my preparation and in my time tutoring.
I am also highly familiar with the A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics syllabuses, particularly Edexcel, having studied them thoroughly during my own A-Level years and spending time since then understanding their intricacies.
A useful extra lesson to help with some loose ends.
Informative, interactive with pre-prepared work that was worked through in a comprehensive way at a pace that worked for me.
Explains concepts clearly and gives confidence to the pupil. A great tutor.
