I offer support that is carefully tailored to the needs of your child. I have an excellent track record of supporting young people to develop confidence in English, to find more enjoyment in the subject and to make more rapid progress towards goals. Whether you’re looking for long-term tutoring or whether you’re close to exams, I will work closely with you to ensure that your child gets the very best out of the sessions.
I have a broad range of experience both in and out of the classroom. I have taught English in high schools for over 20 years, working with Years 7-13 and covering GCSE and A level English literature and language. I have led a busy and successful English department for much of that time. For the last 10 years, I’ve been working as a tutor covering a wide range of GCSE exam boards. I have also worked, for several years, as a GCSE exam marker so I have a very good understanding of the demands of the curriculum and the exams.
I teach English language and literature at KS3, GCSE and A level. I am familiar with a range of GCSE exam boards, including AQA, WJEC / Eduqas, Edexcel, OCR and Pearson iGCSE and, as an experienced exam marker, I am very familiar with the demands of the curriculum.
My students have always said that they find their sessions interesting and useful. Parents have described me as a very caring teacher who has helped their child to engage in the subject and make good progress. Many parents have commented that the work their children do in my lessons has also had a positive impact on other subjects and my students have always reached or exceeded their target grades.
When we first meet, I’ll ask your child about their experience in English lessons and why you’ve decided to look for a tutor. We’ll talk about the things your child enjoys as well as the things they find challenging and this will help me to adapt my teaching to suit their needs and interests. I will keep in regular contact with you and we’ll keep reviewing the way that we work to make sure that the lessons continue to benefit your child.
