A good Economist is a historian, philosopher, ecologist, sociologist, psychologist, scientist, and even a little bit of a businessperson. Economics is an imperfect discipline, but if you want to develop your critical thinking skills, and your understanding of the world then it is an essential subject.

I'm an inter-disciplinary teacher that has studied Economics, History, Philosophy, and Political Science, with a particular focus on climate change and environmental issues. My strengths are linking Economics to real world application and explaining the philosophy behind the subject. I love teaching Economics and asking students "what ought to be done" and helping them to improve their argumentation skills. The joy of Economics is partly the uncertainty, and making educated guesses. It’s a complex subject and making predictions is difficult, but very satisfying when correct.
I got quite poor GCSE grades as I struggled at school and found it deeply uninteresting. Thanks to good A-Level teachers I was able to turn it around and excelled academically since then, earning firsts in all of my qualifications. I believe that this experience of academic failure and success makes me well suited to help a lot of students, especially those struggling in their studies.
I also love reading about UK and global politics, the climate crisis, and even a little bit about the stock market.
Last year as a tutor I helped six year 13 students achieve improved grades in their final A-level exams:
- Three students went from a C to an A.
- One student went from a C to a B.
- One student went from a D to a C.
- One student went from a U to a D.
I have taught AP Economics, History, and German during my years in China. The AP is an American qualification that is technically more difficult than A-Levels, but does not include any essay writing. My students in China across two cohorts achieved an average grade of a 4 (out of 5).
Since moving back to London I have taught Edexcel Economics A and B, AQA Economics, and a little business studies. I was an Examiner with AQA for three years, marking Paper 1 and Paper 3, and for Edexcel A and B.
At the moment I have a number of students with SEND and am seeking to understand more about neurodiversity and how teaching can adapt to help students with these different needs.
Economics AQA, Edexcel A, and OCR exam boards. AP Microeconomics.
