Hey, my name is Sila. I am a fully qualified English teacher and have been teaching since 2021. I have worked as a KS3 Coordinator and AQA Examiner and have taught students of various ages, ranging KS3 to KS4, as well as exam preparation for AQA, OCR, and Edexcel English Language and Literature. I have a great deal of success as an English teacher, boasting a 90% success rate of students achieving or surpassing their target grades at GCSE and A Level.
Although, English is a fantastic subject that can build social, economical and political knowledge, it also opens the path to explore and discover self-awareness and empathy. Stories, novels, poems and plays are extremely valuable to our existence, as we believe that English Literature affords us clarity about world and human relationships. I would like to have that same passion that I do with you and hopefully make a change in their outlook or perspective.
All my lessons are done entirely online through Google Classroom and Google Calendar.
Choosing the right tutor is important - let's have a quick, free video call to discover how I can help!
I have experience teaching English at secondary level with students aged from 11-18 years in KS3 and KS4 using the AQA specification.
I specialise in preparing students for highly competitive UK entrance exams, with particular expertise in reading comprehension, writing, and scholarship-level preparation. I have been successfully preparing students for top independent school entrance exams, including the ISEB Common Entrance (11+ and 13+), as well as the highly selective scholarship exams such as the Eton King’s Scholarship and Westminster Challenge.
As the KS3 Coordinator, I lead curriculum planning, provided support for colleagues, and delivered lessons using a variety of literary text and components of language. For the past 2 years, I have additionally taught online as well, with Google Classroom as my main teaching platform.
My lessons are based around clear learning objectives, engaging with content in detail, using material which includes new vocabulary and new historical, social, economical and political context. I aim to involve the students actively, scaffold teaching to meet their needs, increase confidence, promote critical thinking about literature and foster a genuine love of English.
I teach English Language and Literature at KS3, GCSE and A-Level across the three exam boards: AQA, OCR and Edexcel. I have worked with the full AQA specification and can offer you a wealth of information and experience both in my experience as a teacher and examiner. I teach a range of texts including:
• Shakespeare (Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and others)
• 19th Century texts - Jane Eyre (Brontë), Dracula (Bram Stoker), Jekyll and Hyde
• Modern Texts: An Inspector Calls, The Crucible by Arthur Miller and dystopian fiction (including 1984 and Animal Farm by Orwell)
• Holocaust literature to wider literary fiction
• A Level texts: The Handmaid’s Tale (Atwood), Frankenstein (Shelley), A Streetcar Named Desire (Williams), and The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald) also a very wide range of unseen prose and poetry
• AQA Poetry Anthology - Power and Conflict, and Love and Relationships clusters
• English Language - Paper 1 (Creative Reading and Writing), and Paper 2 (Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives) plus grammar, stylistic features, language analysis and writing
I'd like to help you both with your exam content and exam technique in order to help you develop your analytical writing, essay writing structure, vocabulary and understanding of the assessment objectives.
