I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor (PGDip, Distinction) and experienced educator with over a decade of teaching and tutoring experience. My academic background includes a First-Class degree from King’s College London and a Distinction MSc in Psychology from the University of East London. I specialise in Psychology, English, History, and German, and have worked successfully with a wide range of learners — from students at leading London schools such as Harrow and Francis Holland to those with Special Educational Needs, including autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. My approach is patient, adaptable, and confidence-building, helping each student reach their potential both academically and personally.
Since 2012, I have delivered over 7,500 hours of tuition in Psychology, English, History, German, and Sociology, from KS3 through to A-level. I have worked with students from leading independent schools including Harrow, Francis Holland, and Merchant Taylors, as well as learners with Special Educational Needs such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and severe anxiety.
From 2022 to 2025, I was the sole GCSE and A-level teacher at Lionheart School London, a specialist setting for students with complex SEN/SEMH profiles. In this role, I designed and taught full curricula in Psychology, History, and German, embedding trauma-informed strategies and working closely with clinical staff. My pupils consistently improved by two to three grades within a single academic year.
Earlier in my career, I taught English as a Foreign Language in Thailand and at UK summer schools, as well as volunteering with Breaking Barriers, where I created lesson plans and taught English to refugees. These experiences strengthened my cross-cultural awareness and ability to adapt my teaching to diverse learners.
My pedagogy is rooted in patience, adaptability, and confidence-building. I focus on breaking down complex ideas into accessible steps, tailoring my approach to each learner’s needs, and helping students feel motivated as well as academically successful.
I teach Psychology, Sociology, History, English Literature, English Language, and German at both GCSE and A-level, and I am confident across all GCSE exam boards and all topics.
At A-level, I cover:
Psychology across AQA, OCR, Edexcel, and Cambridge International.
Sociology with AQA.
History, specialising in the Tudors and modern history (post-1900, including German history and the Cold War).
I adapt my teaching to each exam board’s requirements, focusing on both subject mastery and exam technique to help students achieve their full potential.
It was great to meet Sharmila, the lesson was engaging and useful to identify my confidence in the psychology topics
