I have an academic background in English, with a BA, an MA and a PhD in English. I studied English literature and historical texts, and wrote reports, essays and presentations on studied topics from a critical perspective to deepen understanding. I really love teaching and have taught English to high school and undergraduate students. From grasping the meaning of a Shakespearean play to structuring a newspaper article, I am familiar with the intricacies of the subject, and strive to treat students with empathy and care. If it is helpful, we can also plan a lesson together so that there is a clear goal for our sessions and students have autonomy over their learning. Furthermore, we can adapt the lessons in view of progress or changing circumstances. I reply promptly to messages, so feel free to get in touch and I will reply within one day. I also try to be flexible with schedules and have availability evenings, mornings and afternoons.
I have more than 2 years of tutoring experience with students ranging from year 7 to year 13. I have delivered lessons in a diverse range of topics, including MacBeth, Romeo and Juliet, modern English poetry, Oliver Twist and An Inspector Calls. I have also taught English grammar and different forms of writing, with a special focus on creative and persuasive writing. I have prepared students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, helping them answer questions mirroring exam conditions. I have taught more than 50 students and have experience with different examination boards, including AQA and Edexcel.
I strive to prepare lessons to the ability, interests and needs of the students. I am available between lessons to answer questions or address any concerns the students may have. Lastly, I am deeply passionate about literature and creating lessons that engage students.
I teach:
Primary, Secondary, GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate English, including English Language and Literature, as well as Essay writing.
