I am a young, friendly and enthusiastic Cambridge maths graduate, offering online tuition at all levels in Maths, Music and Science. In addition, I will help with university applications (including Oxbridge interview coaching) and entrance exams such as STEP, TMUA and MAT.
I have a strong academic background, having graduated with a 2:1 in Maths from Clare College, Cambridge, 4 A*s at A-Level and all 9s at GCSE. I'm currently studying for my Master's in Multi-Instrumental Woodwind Performance at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I really enjoy teaching and helping people to learn in whichever way works best for them. I will always work at a pace that suits you. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions!
Outside of tutoring, I love to go swimming and practise my languages (Dutch, French and German).
I have many hours of experience tutoring one-to-one at a variety of levels. I have also taught revision classes for as many as sixty A-Level students at a time, and led weekly open help sessions where students could bring any problems to me that they wanted to work through.
I enjoy working with people of all ages in other contexts, too: I have taught piano lessons to groups of 5-8 year olds, coached swimming for 8-12 year olds, conducted music ensembles for 12-18 year olds, and directed musical theatre shows with university students.
Whatever your needs, please do get in touch, if you think I can help you.
I have experience with all major exam boards in Maths and Music. I am especially familiar with Edexcel, including all Further Maths A Level optional modules.
At university I specialised in General Relativity, taking additional courses in Cosmology, Dynamical Systems, Asymptotic Methods, Mathematical Biology, Optimisation, Markov Chains, Classical Dynamics and Vector Calculus.
I completed computing projects on Gravitational Radiation, Orbits of Black Holes, Nonlinear Oscillators and the Dynamics of Hydrogen Atoms.
In Music, I specialise in Woodwind Doubling for Theatre and Jazz, with vast experience in Big Band Jazz, Musical Theatre, Orchestration and Arranging. My instruments are Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet and Piano.
Wonderful teaching skills with very rational and logical methods in solving hard questions. Definitely helpful for preparing TMUA!
Great as usual!
brilliant :)
Nicole - Oxbridge/UCAS Applications - Being a US student seeking to go to college in the UK is hard. Jonathan was patient and tremendously helpful through the UCAS application. His personal statement coaching had a positive impact on my Oxbridge application process and other quick unconditional offers. Highly recommend him to anyone looking to polish their application to another level.
Etienne - TMUA - Q&A teaching style suits me well for TMUA tutoring, as it addresses all my issues and incorporates engaging and fun methods that are always rational and helpful.
Kalina - TMUA - You explained the concepts really clearly, especially the logic which I struggled to understand before having lessons with you. Because you knew the structure of the TMUA really well, you were able to give me tips which came in really useful during the exam. Thanks for your help!
Locky - STEP - Jonathan is an exceptional tutor with deep insights into Mathematics that will significantly enhance your understanding and skills in the subject. He played a crucial role in my success with the STEP 2024 papers, which helped me gain admission to Cambridge to study Mathematics.
Anthony - A Level Maths - Jonathan's passion to help his students succeed, coupled with his love for maths, was a combination that led me to success. Any maths related question I had was easily solved and explained to me in multiple ways if necessary until I understood the material. In the end, working with Jonathan instilled more confidence in myself in terms of the maths which I was doing and resulted in me achieving an A at A level. I would definitely recommend working with him for anything to do with maths.
