I have a wide range of interests outside of education. I enjoy playing both football and American football where possible. I thoroughly enjoy nature and the outdoors and have previously volunteered for a month in a game reserve called Welgevonden in South Africa and hope to return one day.
I am interested in working with students to impact their lives and learning. Currently, I am employed at a secondary school teaching students aged 11 - 18. I have the passion, knowledge, commitment and drive to maximise the life chances of all students by providing a stimulating, exciting, challenging, respectful and safe environment.
I aim to encourage students to develop a good understanding of their chosen subject, along with inspiring and developing the passion through creative tuition and imaginative approaches.
Within my teaching, I strive to set high expectations to establish goals that can stretch, challenge and develop students physically, socially and intellectually, which in turn will develop the aspirations and learning of students.
You can expect well-planned and structured tutor sessions, varied teaching and learning methods, differentiation, and building positive relationships.
Qualities and strengths I hold entail creativity, innovation, and imagination; all of which I like to reflect in my teaching through active and discovery-based approaches to learning. Additional skills I have include: a sense of humour, enthusiasm, generosity of spirit and using my initiative to differentiate teaching styles.
My degree focused on Biology and Psychology. The course and its flexibility allowed me to gain knowledge across a broad range of subjects within science. I can effectively deliver a range of science courses.
Great class. Mark is a fantastic teacher. Not only is he great at explaining, but he knows the structure of the exam so can be strategic about focus and topics. He is also very positive and has given our son a confidence boost at just the right time.
Brilliant as always - as shown by Angus' recent mock grades - 8,9,9. Angus is doing better in Science than any other subject and he was not in that position before he started lessons with Mark. Thank you!
Both Angus and Fiona buzzing as usual after their classes - thank you Mark.
