After gaining a First Class BSc in Banking & International Finance at City University of London Cass Business School, I took an M.Phil in Finance at the University of Cambridge (with Distinction). I was awarded a place on the PhD programme. However, instead I opted for a career in investment banking.
I’ve spent a considerable part of my career as a financial analyst at UBS, for a large part in the TMT sector, where I was top-rated analyst, and thereafter as a top-rated cross-industry analyst, covering special situations and corporate finance. I was an active member of the Education Committee within UBS research. I also spent 18 months in UBS' Valuation & Accounting Group, a team with considerable client education responsibilities. Prior to this, I was a corporate finance analyst in investment banking at UBS and Morgan Stanley.
Throughout, I specialised in making complex, technical issues simple to understand and bringing concepts to life, with a particular focus on their implications for equity investors and analysts and the companies that they cover.
I began tutoring with The Profs in late 2016 and have successfully taught and tutored undergrads, postgrads and professionals with a wide range of abilities and requirements, across a range of finance and business-related subjects. In 2018, I was The Profs' Tutor of the Year, having been commended the previous year.
I have spent 4 years teaching Corporate Finance and Advanced Company Valuation to MBA and Master's students at Imperial College Business School. For c18 months I also assisted the Academic Director of the MBA programme with special projects and management of the tutors (teaching assistants) for the Global MBA online programme. Amongst other things this has afforded me an understanding of MBA programmes - syllabuses, teaching methods, pedagogical approaches, and challenges facing students and instructors. I have also assisted students with their applied research projects and thesis work.
When massive open online courses (MOOCs) first emerged in 2012 I spent two years as an online TA for Stanford University-Coursera's highly popular Introduction to Mathematical Thinking.
It's probably worth mentioning that during my first two years in investment banking I conceived and co-founded a family water-cooler business that operated for 8 years before being purchased by a competitor for £260k (£550k in today's money). Prior to this, during my university years I was a contributing editor with my own column at Euromoney Corporate Finance magazine.
I go out of my way to support my students whether at business school or tutoring. I really enjoy teaching and helping people meet and surmount their academic challenges and master difficult material. My approach is probably best described as warm, empathetic and creative.
I have spent 4 years as a lecturer, course-leader and teaching assistant at MBA and Masters level at Imperial College Business School - in class and online. w Have taught and guided 1000+ students through MBA, MSc and undergraduate level courses, in class, online and 1-on-1.
