I am a well-qualified teacher of both History and Politics, holding a BA, MA and PhD in History. As an MA candidate I was the J. Ambler Johnston Scholar of American History at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) and subsequently received the Overseas Student Scholarship whilst working towards my doctorate at Queen Mary University of London. I have experience of teaching in three schools with excellent records of performance – Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, The Portsmouth Grammar School and Embley – which was preceded by 12 years of serving as a university lecturer.

Originally from the United States, I moved to England in 2004 in order to pursue my PhD in History, and have since obtained British citizenship, and have settled here permanently with my family in Hampshire. I absolutely LOVE History! I am a serious academic of Social, Political & Military History (and they are all very much related). I am also a leading historian on 19th-century Anglo-American relations and have peer-reviewed publications on the topic and have been consulted by the media, including the BBC, for news-related issues and historical documentaries. I have served as a university Lecturer in History at Queen Mary University of London, Oxford, Westminster and the Highlands & Islands prior to becoming a Teacher of History & Politics at Dr Challoner's Grammar School, Embley and The Portsmouth Grammar School, consistently producing students with outstanding A-Level and IGCSE/GCSE results in both History and Politics.
I have extensive experience of both teaching and tutoring.
For teaching, I have taught A-Level History on the OCR (The Portsmouth Grammar School and Embley) and AQA (Dr Challoner's Grammar School) exam boards, A-Level Politics on AQA (The Portsmouth Grammar School and Embley) and Edexcel exam boards (Dr Challoner's Grammar School), IGCSE on the Edexcel (Embley) and CIE (The Portsmouth Grammar School) exam boards, and GCSE on the Edexcel (Dr Challoner's Grammar School) exam board. In each case, my students secured high results.
I have been a private tutor for both History (A-Level, IGCSE and Key Stage 3) and Politics (A-Level) for the past three years, and so far I have only had students perform exceptionally well on their respective exams.
History and Politics are both very fun topics to teach, and I have numerous approaches as I prefer to use a variety of teaching methods, which in turn helps to keep students engaged. I have been told by numerous students and parents that I have a very charismatic approach to both topics, probably a result of my finding them both exciting, and I love to spread the enthusiasm!
All aspects of American History, British History from the 16th-20th centuries, US Politics, UK Politics, Political Ideologies.
I can teach History at A-Level, IGCSE/GCSE and Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9). I can teach Politics at A-Level.
