About Me

Having been a voracious reader and keen student of literature from a young age, I love inspiring others with the same passion that has been so rewarding and formative in my own life.

In 2015 I graduated with Merit from my English Literature MA at University College London, where I specialised in Shakespeare. In the years since then I have harnessed this knowledge and experience in my work as a freelance tutor, covering academic levels ranging from secondary school all the way up to university. Alongside this, I have also enjoyed working as a writer and editor (most recently creating academic study guides for university students).

I was tutored at home for years during my own education, as I have struggled with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) from a young age. I therefore have first-hand experience of how transformative tuition can be, and I've carried this empathy and perspective forward into my own tutoring practice.

Tutor Experience

My tutoring experience began in 2015, when I worked at a secondary grammar school as a Learning Support Mentor, helping students in both one-to-one and small group sessions. English Literature and Language was my main focus here, alongside a more general development of literacy skills.

After branching out to become a freelance tutor, I have gathered years of tutoring experience at a range of different levels (from KS3, GCSE, and A level, to undergraduate and beyond). I have had the privilege of seeing the powerful impact that patient, individualised tuition can have on students’ confidence and subsequent achievements. For an engaging and collaborative learning experience, I use a powerful virtual whiteboard for my online lessons.

I like to be creative, caring, and approachable in my tutoring, while always aiming to foster a high level of academic attainment. My approach is uniquely tailored to each student, creating a calm learning environment that allows a true love of the academic subject to blossom.

Topic Expertise

English Literature and English Language are my specialist subjects, along with History and Religious Studies. Creative Writing also remains a particular interest of mine. Whichever subject I am tutoring, I always aim to help my students with their study skills and powers of written expression in general. I have a particular focus on helping to develop the flow, structure, and clarity of essay arguments.

Client Reviews

This was an excellent tutoring session. Andrew was clear, engaging, and made sure I understood each step. I really appreciated his patience and thorough explanations. I would highly recommend him.
