About Me

I’m a proud Nigerian, born and raised in Jamaica and I’ve called the UK home for over 17 years now. With that, I have family and friends all over the world and am prompted to travel a lot. Despite my fear of flying, I have visited every continent in the world apart from Oceania and South America.

I’m not a thrill seeker, but I do try to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new experiences. I once got talked into parasailing over the Mediterranean- I’ve never been closer to God in my life, than I was in that very moment.
Fear of flying aside, if you put me in front of an audience with a microphone in hand, I feel right at home as a public speaker and through my 'Sọrọ (Yoruba for Speak) with Mariam' initiative, I empower others to know the true value of their voice.

Fun fact, I also compete in Pageants nationally and have placed as a finalist in Miss England, Miss Supranational UK, Miss International UK and Miss Universe Great Britain, where I've had opportunities to advance my advocacy work and volunteering.

Tutor Experience

I have delivered around 200+ hours of 1:1 tutorials over the years as a part time tutor working mainly with undergraduate (BSc) and postgraduate (MSc) students. My focus is on academic writing, for assignments, exam prep and dissertations.

Most students have been obtained via referrals or through agency work. Previously I traveled for residential work and conducted virtual sessions, however currently, I am strictly a remote tutor. I’ve had experience working with both National and International students ranging from first time students to career professionals across University of London, King’s College London, UCL, QMUL, Leicester, Warwick; all of whom received First Classes/Distinctions for their assignments.

I cover how to pick a title, build the structure (i.e. Literature review to conclusion), how to conduct academic research (i.e. appropriate sources, how to efficiently read academic papers, what to look for, what to use, etc.), how to convey your position on the topic within the writing, referencing and how to use references to further re-affirm your position/validate your argument and make an impact with your writing, what a first class/distinction level piece of work entails, provide feedback and edits.

Additionally, I offer coaching services in personal brand, public speaking, and interview skills to further support their progression into careers post-study.
