About Me
I am a Head of Department in Geology and previously in Geography - I am also a Pastoral Lead, with 18 years of experience, teaching in a high flying school in the Home Counties.
Previous to teaching I spent several years working for large geotechnical engineering companies and the British Armed Forces in the same capacity.
With a Research Master (UCL) and a PhD currently underway at MMU, my academic background is matched by 17 years as a teacher (MEd/QTS), tutor and examiner for two major UK exam boards. I offer an insider’s perspective on the Geography NEA, GCSE Paper 3, and Geology Lab Practicals.
My expertise is rooted in the field; I have led expeditions to Iceland, Etna and the Canaries, alongside extensive fieldwork across the UK, from the Jurassic coast to the Lakes.
Tutor Experience
I am current and experienced examiner and have marked for two of the largest exam boards in the UK - marking both GCSE and A Level papers in both Geography and Geology. I have exam marked since 2010.
I have tutored alongside my teaching since the very start and find it very rewarding. I tutor all exam boards at GCSE and iGCSE and A level for both Geography (AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL, CIE) and Geology (OCR and Eduqas). I also have a good understanding of the keystage national curriculum.
I tutor in person and online and use a range of techniques that are personalised to each student, to help support improvement. This includes a range of skills and knowledge based learning activities, alongside additional tasks that support each session.
Over my time, many students have made considerable gains in progress and over attainment. I can support with revision, improve writing style and structure and offer guidance on NEAs, fieldwork and assessed practicals in line with exam board guidelines.

I have completed a degree in combined Geography and Geology, and am educated to research masters level from the Combined Earth Science School at UCL/Birkbeck - University of London and professionally I hold QTS, NPQSL and a Masters of Education.
