About Me

I recently completed my doctorate at the University of Oxford. My thesis considered how women encountered and interacted with universities in the Middle Ages, specifically in Oxford, Paris and Bologna. More broadly I am interested in medieval education, particularly the development of universities, and the role of gender and families within intellectual networks. I am also working on a new project on the soundscapes of medieval universities.

I received fully-funded scholarships for my masters degree and doctorate, as well as the prestigious Scouloudi fellowship from the Institute of Historical Research.

Tutor Experience

I am an experienced teacher having led undergraduate tutorials, seminars and lectures at various colleges in Oxford, including the final year special subject 'Joan of Arc and her Age:1419-31' and 'European and World History: The Late Medieval World 1300-1525'. I have also worked as an essay tutor and led sessions on writing and research skills for first year undergraduates. From 2024-2025, I was an undergraduate dissertation supervisor.

As an Outreach Tutor for the History Faculty at the University of Oxford, I led a range of activities for secondary school students from year 7 through to sixth form. This included workshops on primary source analysis and historiography, and specialist lectures on elements of my research. I also contributed to supporting students in the admissions process through mock interviews for the History Faculty and also for Magdalen College School. Outside of Oxford, I am familiar with the University of London system having undertaken my undergraduate and masters degrees at Royal Holloway and pursued intercollegiate modules at UCL, KCL and Queen Mary.

I also worked as a Researcher in Residence for the History Faculty based at St Gregory the Great Catholic School in Oxford. Within this role, I led a class on medieval education for year 7s, helped enhance and diversify the curriculum with new primary material, and supported sixth formers in their extended essay.

Through my work on the Citizens Project at Royal Holloway, I contributed blogs and videos based on the AQA GCSE History exam curriculum.

Topic Expertise

My expertise lies in History. As well as my specialism in medieval history, I am familiar with essential elements of the secondary school curriculum, such as women's suffrage, the First and Second World Wars, the Holocaust, the Russian Revolution, and the Cold War. My experience as a proofreader and undergraduate dissertation supervisor equips me with the essential skills for supporting undergraduate and masters dissertations, as well as doctoral theses.

Having received full funding for both my masters and doctorate, as well as a writing-up fellowship at the IHR in London and other grants for my research, I am available for supporting the preparation of these types of applications.

I am also a skilled palaeographer - the study of medieval documents - and would be available for tutoring beginners. This may be of interest to masters students or PhDs studying medieval subjects.

I can also teach beginners Italian.
