About Me
I am an academic, composer, musicologist, and philosopher with a PhD from the University of Cambridge. My work is interdisciplinary, bringing music and composition into conversation with philosophy, cultural theory, history, questions of identity, creativity, and Persian intellectual and cultural traditions. Alongside specialist music tuition, I work with students on academic writing, research, university applications, personal statements, and interview preparation.
My teaching combines university-level academic experience, professional creative practice, and many years of private teaching. I work with students from GCSE and A-Level through to undergraduate and postgraduate level, helping with essays, research projects, dissertations, applications, portfolios, interviews, composition, analysis, and research-based writing.
I am particularly interested in helping students think more clearly and independently: developing stronger arguments, sharpening research questions, structuring complex ideas, and communicating them with precision and confidence. In music, this extends from theory, analysis, composition, and musicianship to broader historical, philosophical, cultural, and socio-political questions.
Tutor Experience
I have taught and supervised students at university level, including at the University of Cambridge, with particular experience in academic writing, independent research, musicology, analysis, contemporary music, sound studies, and aesthetics. My work with students includes developing arguments, structuring essays and research projects, close analytical work, and detailed written feedback.
I currently teach Music at Abbey College Cambridge, working with GCSE and A-Level students on music theory, analysis, critical listening, composition, performance skills, and preparation for university entry.
I have also taught privately for many years across piano, violin, music theory, composition, improvisation, and musicianship. As Chair in Composition & Theory at Conservatoire One, I have taught contemporary composition, advanced theory and analysis, and score reading to students ranging from beginners to postgraduate level. I have also taught at the Music School of New York City and the Piano School of NYC, working with children, teenagers, and adults in both individual and group settings.
My lessons are structured around the student’s aims. In theory and analysis, I use explanation, score study, listening, and guided written work. In composition, I focus on form, notation, rhythm, harmony, texture, and the development of a distinctive musical voice. In academic writing and admissions work, I help students refine argument, structure, evidence, style, and intellectual clarity.
