About Me

After eight years in the digital and technical industries, I transitioned into teaching Computer Science. I am a huge advocate for raising a generation who are fluent in the efficient and ethical use of technology. Computer Science is all about problem-solving, the most highly ranked skill by employers. I aim to help develop independent research and study habits in my learners, built on their interests and curiosity and through engaging and interactive lessons.

Tutor Experience

I qualified as a secondary Computer Science teacher over 8 years ago and started teaching in central London with over 300 students in my first year from aged 11-17. I quickly progressed to Subject Lead, responsible for the implementation of the Computer Science curriculum from KS3 to A-Level. During the pandemic, I moved into a consulting role for a network of 50 schools in London, where I was responsible for raising the standard of computer science through curriculum development and initial teacher training programs. Given the shortage of teachers, I still had a strong connection with the classroom where I had to frequently step in to support exam year groups. This required being highly adaptive and responsive to students' needs. I now teach exclusively online to both full-time students taking GCSE and A'Levels, as well as tutoring for additional support and guidance.

Topic Expertise

Computer Systems, Computational Thinking and Algorithms, Programming in Python, Pseudocode (AQA, Pearson, OCR, CAIE)

Testimonials

John (Yianni) is fantastic. My son is already feeling so much more confident in IT and programming. John moves at a good pace and checks understanding as he goes. The lessons are centred around what my son needs help on. John is clear in his explanations and teaching and my son never feels stupid if he hasn't understood something. John has also provided some great resources too.

My son is doing computer science for his GCSE .We are so lucky to come across John . He is highly experienced and tailors the lesson to the student’s need and explains any topic my son finds challenging widely and thoroughly .His lessons are always engaging and my son is always looking forward to the next lesson with John . My son’s performance in computer science has significantly improved as well as his grades. Can’t recommend John enough.

John-Adam D is teaching my son GCSE Computer Science. He has helped my son a lot and the mock exam result has shown that my son has made obvious improvement in Computer Science. He explains things very clearly and has taught my son some very useful exam techniques. I am so glad to have John-Adam D as my son's Computer Science tutor.

John has helped my son to revise all the key information for A-level Computer Science. My son’s grades have improved and he is on track for a top mark. John is cheerful, knowledgeable and able to motivate students to do their best. I highly recommend this tutor.

"My son had been taking Computer Science lessons from John. John is an excellent and conscientious teacher with a vast knowledge on the subject. He simplifies and explains things very clearly with special attention to everything that my son was struggling with.

My son’s performance in Computer Science has improved significantly and we are hoping he gets a top grade in his GCSE’s, all thanks to John."

My son was doing the condensed computer science gcse in year 10 and we used John to help build up to the exam in May for about 2 months. I left them too it, but was pleasantly surprised how well Max took to it which was in large part to John and how he structured the content and how he ran the lesson. It seemed very interactive and complemented his school lessons well. Thank you so much!
