About Me
My career thus far has been varied and interesting. I am unusual in that I have a BSc degree, but qualified as an English teacher. I worked solely as an English teacher for the first years of my teaching career and then spent over a decade working in secondary education (as an Assistant Headteacher in the last four years). After that, I set up my own private tutoring business, teaching Psychology, Sociology and Criminology alongside English.
I love a pub quiz, enjoy the theatre and travelling. I love a challenge and that's perhaps why I enjoy teaching different subjects. As an avid reader, I spend a lot of hours reading around subjects and ensuring that my knowledge is current.
Tutor Experience
I am particularly experienced at supporting children with additional needs, such as dyslexia. I work hard to ensure that lessons are engaging and that each child makes the maximum progress possible in that time. After 18 years of teaching, I have excellent subject knowledge and professional experience delivering the specifications for AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas.
I give learners appropriate support to enable them to achieve their academic and vocational targets. I am able to provide 1-1 online sessions in a virtual classroom or, alternatively I am happy to prepare a plan for you to answer set work, providing you with key information, as well as reviewing and appraising any work due for submission. I am always available between tutoring sessions to answer questions or clarify some points from the lesson. I also set homework tasks and exam papers questions to give you complete support and ensure quick development. Entire mock exams are available upon request.
