I've had careers in actuarial consulting and academia. I can teach statistics, mathematics, finance, and software skills in Excel and R. I'm an amateur musician and have a large dog called Heidi.
I have 25 years' experience as a teaching academic at tertiary level. Tutored in statistics and theology, then lectured in statistics (and theology) at Murdoch University. More recently lectured in actuarial science and statistics at Curtin University and tutored in actuarial studies and statistics at Macquarie University. Nearly all this teaching was to first-year university students or those preparing for university study. Some teaching to post-grad students. I worked successfully with students across a wide range of mathematical aptitudes. I won awards for teaching excellence and was responsible for teaching quality in my school.
I foster a reflective, student-centred approach, so students gain insight into their strengths and challenges, and acquire skills that empower them to address their challenges with confidence.
Statistics, mathematics, actuarial studies to first-year university level in Australia. Also expert in software such as Excel and R.
very clear explanation. extremely useful !
I already had a few classes with Dough and I came back because he is an excellent tutor, I 100% recommend him.
Doug is a wonderful, kind and thoughtful tutor. He has an excellent approach at explaining both simple and complex mathematics. I was very maths illiterate, but recently scored 93% on exams thanks to Doug’s clear and helpful tutoring.
Doug has been a really helpful teacher in using Rstudio and Rmarkdown in statistics. I reached out to him to help me with something entirely new to me and I had no background in it so it was stressful enough but he was very patient, had a great teaching style and was super easy to understand. It's rare to come across a good teacher as a lot of them make their students run from mathematics or anything close to it so I've been incredibly lucky to come across a great teacher.
