About Me
I've had careers in actuarial consulting and academia. I can teach statistics, mathematics, finance, and software skills in Excel and R. I'm an amateur musician and have a large dog called Heidi.
Tutor Experience
I have 25 years' experience as a teaching academic at tertiary level. Tutored in statistics and theology, then lectured in statistics (and theology) at Murdoch University. More recently lectured in actuarial science and statistics at Curtin University and tutored in actuarial studies at Macquarie University. Nearly all this teaching was to first-year university students or those preparing for university study. Some teaching to post-grad students. I worked successfully with students across a wide range of mathematical aptitudes. I won awards for teaching excellence and was responsible for teaching quality in my school.
I foster a reflective, student-centred approach, so students gain insight into their strengths and challenges, and acquire skills that empower them to address their challenges with confidence.

Doug has been a really helpful teacher in using Rstudio and Rmarkdown in statistics.
