Qualified IB English A Teacher | Specialist in Language & Literature, Paper 1, Paper 2, IO & HLE

I enjoy helping students become more confident and independent in their analysis and academic writing. My approach is supportive but academically rigorous: rather than simply telling students what to write, I help them understand how to develop a strong interpretation, construct a convincing argument, and analyse the effects of authorial choices in depth.

About Me

I am a qualified English teacher specialising in IB English A: Language & Literature, with experience teaching students at both Standard and Higher Level.

Having taught within the IB Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme for 9 years, I understand that students come to English A with very different starting points. For some students, the priority is making the course feel manageable, building the fundamental skills they need and moving from a 2 or 3 towards a secure passing grade. For others, it is about refining an already strong response and developing the precision and sophistication required for a 6 or 7.

I adapt my teaching accordingly. Whether a student is struggling to understand what a Paper 1 actually requires, repeatedly falling short of a 4, or aiming for the highest grades, I focus on identifying what is currently holding them back and giving them practical strategies to make measurable progress.

Tutor Experience

I am a qualified secondary English teacher with nine years of experience teaching English Language and Literature in both international and Dutch secondary education.

I currently teach IB Diploma Programme English A: Language & Literature, including Higher Level students, and have experience preparing students for the major components of the course: Paper 1, Paper 2, the Individual Oral and the Higher Level Essay.

My wider teaching experience includes literary analysis, comparative essay writing, academic writing, close reading, oral assessment and examination preparation. I have taught students from a wide range of linguistic and educational backgrounds and am experienced in adapting instruction to individual strengths and areas for development.

Alongside classroom teaching, my experience in IB coordination and curriculum development has given me a broader understanding of the Diploma Programme and the academic demands placed on IB students.
