Hello! I'm Leon.
I would like to think that my interest are nicely broad and diverse. Throughout school and university, I loved maths and physics; I finished formal schooling with a Master's degree in theoretical physics. Since leaving university (over two years ago), I have been interested in regenerative agriculture, and how it can respond to some of the big questions about climate change and ecology. As such, I have been working on different regenerative farms since leaving university. Alongside this work, I was teaching maths and physics. During the months of April to September of 2023, I hiked from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail.
My tutoring experience has varied from informally amongst friends, to formally with dedicated clients.
I started tutoring by helping friends at school. Specifically, I lead study groups in maths, physics and economics, at IB level. Then at university, I worked with an agency; I had a handful of students that I taught alongside my studies. This ranged from primary school science to A-Level physics. Since leaving university, I have helped friends, and friends of friends, with essays, personal statements for university, cover letters and other applications, alongside lots of maths problem solving!
My specific pedagogy (method or style of teaching) would be to recognise that teaching is best viewed as a conversation rather than a lecture. A host of factors affect people's abilities to learn, and it is the responsibility of the tutor to recognise this and respond properly. One size does not fit all!
In total, I would estimate that I have helped teach nearly 25 people variously at different points, easily totalling over 200 hours of tuition. This includes, but is not limited to: maths and physics; essay writing and essay corrections; cover letters; personal statements.
At university, I specialised in the more theoretical areas of physics, meaning that it was maths heavy. My master's thesis focused on neutrino oscillations: a very (very!) niche area of particle physics.
As such I am happy to teach all levels of maths and physics up to university level. I studied the IB diploma at sixth form, but I am also familiar with the A-Level curriculum too.
Finally, after my time in France, I am confident in teaching French up to GCSE.
My class with Leon was amazing! He is such a friendly, empathetic and intelligent tutor. I really felt like he listened to all of my concerns and was able to answer them in a way that I understood. Same goes with teaching me some maths, he was able to explain it in a way that I would understand. Very grateful to have found Leon as a tutor :)
