About Me

I offer a personalised learning experience, focusing on those areas of a qualification where you require the most support. This might include refreshing your knowledge of key concepts, working on the structure of production evaluations and research projects, or input on how to write effective essays under timed conditions.
My first degree is in Communication Studies, and I also have a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education, a Masters in Education, as well as a Masters in Philosophy.
I am happy to support students from GCSE through to undergraduate level.
I have an excellent general knowledge, which helps me to work with EPQ students in the completion of their projects and I always take great pleasure in learning something about the world when undertaking this responsibility.
I also have an excellent knowledge of the specification requirements for Film and Media Studies and value the experience of helping students to find their voice in these subjects.
There are many ways to develop your confidence in these subjects and we can have a chat about the best way to move your work forward in your first free online video call.

Tutor Experience

I have taught in Further Education since 1998.
My main teaching experience is with GCSE and A Level Film Studies, although I have significant experience of teaching GCSE, A Level and BTEC Media. In addition to this I have taught Sociology, Religious Studies and Philosophy. All of this has provided me with a broad base of teaching experience. I am the course lead for the Extended Project Qualification Dissertations at my institution and can provide help with any stage of your project. My students regularly achieve A* grades and have in the past achieved the highest set of grades in the country for one exam I was leading on.
Mostly my students have been 16-19 years old, although I have also taught many adult learners on degree level programmes.
My pedagogic approach aims to combine the clarity and objectivity of academic discourse with the creative subjectivity that is required to generate engaging academic writing. I hope to model and promote optimism and tenacity in my teaching, as well as a non-dogmatic and flexible approach to the methods by which we learn. When teaching Film in particular, I hope to encourage others to appreciate the great artistic achievements of others, whilst showing that our personal responses, whatever they might be, are also of great significance.
