I am a friendly, enthusiastic and experienced teacher of Biology with over 16 years of classroom experience. I have taught in top independent schools, such as St Mary's Ascot, and latterly in international schools in Rome. I am now a full-time tutor and Edexcel examiner.
I love working with students to help them with their weaknesses and collaborating to identify more efficient and effective ways of learning.

Born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, I was the first in my family to attend university—a journey that sparked my lifelong passion for helping students to achieve their aspirations. After securing four A grades at A Level, I went on to earn my BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences from Durham University, followed by a PGCE from the University of Nottingham.
I am now a full-time tutor. I am excited to bring my international experience and a genuine, warm approach to every student I support, ensuring they feel empowered to succeed.
I enjoy travelling (when I'm able!) and keeping fit. I am quite crafty and creative, and love to make things. I go walking whenever I can.
I am a Biology specialist across KS3–KS5, with extensive experience teaching a wide range of specifications. At KS5, I have taught within schools Edexcel IAL, OCR A Level, CIE A Level, and IB Diploma (Higher Level), and have supported students across additional exam boards through private tuition. At KS4, I have taught Edexcel IGCSE since 2017 and currently work as an examiner for this specification. I am also experienced in teaching general Science to KS3.
Throughout my two-decade career—spanning prestigious UK boarding schools and international education in Rome—I’ve learned that truly transformative tutoring is built on trust and a holistic understanding of the student. My experience as a boarding housemistress and Head of Year has given me a unique perspective on the pressures young people face today, and I pride myself on being a supportive, steadying influence who helps bridge the gap between potential and performance. Drawing on my experience with hundreds of students, I understand that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach; every pupil starts from a different foundation of knowledge and skills. I consider myself patient yet energetic, creating a warm, "low-stakes" environment where I can empower my students, providing the scaffolding they need to move from hesitation to genuine academic mastery.
I currently teach or tutor the following specifications:
KS3 Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
Edexcel IGCSE Biology
AQA GCSE Biology
OCR A, A Level Biology
Edexcel A, A Level
Edexcel B, A Level
CIE A Level
IB Biology
Edexcel IAL
AQA A Level
“Charlotte has been tutoring my daughter for seven years (KS3 Science, Biology GCSE and now A Level). She has consistently encouraged my daughter’s enthusiasm and her GCSE result (grade 9) is tangible proof of the quality of teaching. Charlotte is able to make complex topics accessible and engaging. Her experience and professionalism are evident through her thorough subject knowledge, kind patience and her clear communication both with my daughter and myself.”

“Charlotte has been tutoring both of our children for the past three years. Our son achieved amazing results in his GCSE - well above the school’s expectations! After this success, Charlotte began tutoring our daughter for her GCSEs as well. Charlotte is a very special tutor. She creates a strong relationship with her students, understands the areas of difficulty, is extremely supportive and builds confidence and trust.”
(Parent of two Year 11 pupils)
“Charlotte supported my son through his A Level re-sit. She is incredibly knowledgeable and explains complex content in a way that is easy to understand. Charlotte’s approachable manner immediately put my son at ease, helping him to grow in confidence and develop a genuine enjoyment for Biology. Her encouragement made a huge difference to both his understanding and his self-belief. He achieved an A grade and secured his place at medical school.”
(Parent of Year 13 pupil)
“Charlotte has experience of teaching at an exceptional school and provides a comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter and exam techniques that one acquires within an excellent academic institution. Her patient and calm approach instilled a level of competency and confidence in my home-educated daughter which enabled her to attain her full potential of a grade nine in her IGCSE exam. I highly recommend Charlotte.”
(Parent of Year 11 pupil)
“Charlotte is an incredible teacher. She prepared me for my IGCSE Biology exam, for which I obtained grade 9. I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons, in which Charlotte created a stress-free environment where I felt encouraged to raise questions. Her targeted approach developed my understanding of the most challenging areas of the syllabus, building my confidence in the subject as a whole.”
