About Me

I am italian, with a passion for travelling, learning new languages (I speak italian and english fluently, but learning french and dutch) and science.

I am passionate about scientific research, the discovery of our world, breaking the barrier of knowledge, the discovery and development of new technologies to solve modern issues. I am also incredibly fascinated by nature, the chemistry and biochemistry mechanisms that happen all around us everyday. The way our body synthesises enzymes for example, which are amazing nanomachines that carry out the most diverse functions or the way chloroplasts can use the energy from photons to sustain life in plants and algae.

Now I work in the chemical sector in an analytical lab as Sr Research Scientist - Mass Spectrometry specialist, analysing polyurethanes materials and their building blocks (isocyanates and polyols).

In 2019 I completed my PhD in polymer physics at the University of Sheffield. I became an expert in the physical characterisation of polymer films through spectroscopic ellipsometry, AFM and small angle X-ray scattering, while researching the crystallisation properties of semiconducting polymers in thin films.

During my MSc thesis at the University of Wroclaw as an Erasmus exchange student, I studied the equilibria in solution of metallo-peptides complexes, involving a peptide found in snake venom with an Histidine rich aminoacidic sequence that can be found also in proteins involved in neurodegenerative diseases such as the Alzheimer disease and the mad cow disease.

I have a BSc and a MSc degree in chemistry from the University of Ferrara, where I received a very focused training in analytical techniques, i.e. chromatography, mass spectrometry, UV-Vis spectroscopy of coordination compounds, but I also covered different courses of organic chemistry, biochemistry and synthesis of natural products.

Tutor Experience

I have experience as lab demonstrator at university during my PhD degree and private tutoring of 1st year chemistry during my MSc and BSc degrees. I taught young university students from 1st to 3rd year bachelor, but also maths to young pupils, about 6 years old.

Topic Expertise

- Analytical chemistry: dilutions, chromatography, Mass spectrometry,
- polymers,
- organic & inorganic chemistry.
