About Me
As a History educator, I bring a range of developed skills and proven experience to the tutoring role. Being also a practising historian and author allows me to synthesis complex ideas and tasks into accessible components for students.
I have also worked as an education editor with a daily newspaper and have been a radio broadcaster - so I understand the importance of effective communication.
In terms of recreation, I enjoy travel and sport. I am a keen follower of Australian football and also enjoy playing cricket.
Tutor Experience
I have three decades of History teaching experience at a range of schools in Australia and Asia. I have also been a member of the Education faculty at Deakin University in Australia.
My long involvement in teaching and examining IB History at the Diploma level has given me a valuable insight into successful and smart ways for students to approach this course. Identifying ways to maximise outcomes with the most effective use of time is beneficial for IB students who are busy juggling their subjects over the two years.
Making History interesting and accessible is important, and this can be easy to achieve! Navigating and simplifying aspects of the course is always welcomed by students.
My career has also involved the writing of a number of textbooks for secondary students - the most recent in 2022 is titled "Analysing Australian History" has just been published by Cambridge University Press.
