I am currently a postgraduate researcher at the LSE's Department of International Relations (IR) - one of the world's leading universities for this subject. As part of my PhD, I have also been awarded highly prestigious UK Government funding from the Economic & Social Research Council. While my current research specialism is in the politics, IR and contemporary history of East Asia, my broad training and experience mean that I have expertise in a range of IR and political theory, as well as regional expertise in the IR, politics and contemporary history of the UK, the US, Europe etc.
Previously, I obtained a first-class undergraduate degree from Cambridge (Trinity College), and distinction-grade master's degrees from SOAS University of London and the LSE. My research and commentary have also been published in academic and journalistic sources.
Between my undergraduate and master's degrees, I trained as a lawyer and worked for three years at the top international firm Slaughter and May. Ultimately, however, I decided that a career in commercial law was not for me, and returned to university to pursue a career in academia and teaching.
I have several years' experience of tutoring mainly undergraduate and postgraduate students in a range of social science subjects. In particular, in accordance with my own research, I specialise in tutoring International Relations and Politics. I have also assisted a number of students with their general academic essay writing skills, as well as academic and professional application support.
I have received consistently excellent feedback from my tutees. In some cases, tutees' grades have even improved from a 'failing' grade up to a 'distinction' level grade following my tuition.
I am able to offer tutoring at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in:
- International Relations
- East Asian Studies (with particular expertise in Japan and the Koreas)
- Modern and contemporary history
- General academic essay writing, including dissertation projects
I am also able to assist with academic and professional applications (e.g. Oxbridge applications, postgraduate applications and Law Training Contract applications).
The following is a selection of feedback provided in relation to my tutoring: "Chris has been tutoring my daughter and he is punctual, knows the subject and goes through the content in detail and makes clear what to include in each paragraph in essay planning. She is very happy and he is an excellent tutor." - Zenebech. "Chris is an incredible tutor. He is very patient, organised and attentive in his teaching. He is always happy to answer any questions and go over things as many times it takes for me to understand them. He makes me feel at ease and has improved my confidence in the subject. Thank you Chris." - Sophie. "Chris was amazing!!! Thank you for introducing me to him." - Rumina.
