After graduating with a History degree from Cambridge I worked as a researcher for History documentaries and am now living in Berlin to study for a Global History MA, while working as an online tutor alongside. Before teaching History and English I taught piano.
My experience as a tutor has enabled me to developed strong teaching skills which I can adapt to a student's particular needs. I have a relaxed approach to tutoring, where I build a pupil's confidence by providing building blocks for improving their writing style and essay structure, before focussing on more specific challenges.
I also like to familiarise students with the mark scheme and what it is that examiners are looking for in order to de-mystify the process of sitting tests. We then talk about simple ways of achieving the top marks, whether by 'signposting paragraphs' to show judgement or including quotes to indicate debate. I try to make my sessions as engaging as possible and to make revision seem memorable and less daunting - often I use anagrams, checkpoints or lists.
RECENT FEEDBACK: 'Lizzy helped my daughter immensely especially with her history essay writing... really knows her subjects. I would highly recommend her' (History GCSE), 'she clearly knew her stuff...which inspired confidence in me. Her sessions were of a consistently high quality. She provided me with practical help to deal with my specific problems' (History A Level)
