I am a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at a prestigious London university. I have a PhD in International Relations from LSE, distinction-grade master's degrees from LSE and SOAS, and a first-class undergraduate degree from Cambridge.
I have significant experience in a range of politics and IR sub-fields, especially IR theory and the international politics of East Asia, and my writing has been published in both academic and journalistic sources – including some of the most globally prestigious IR scholarly journals.
Between my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, I also trained as a lawyer and worked for three years at a top international law firm in the City of London, as well as spending time on secondment working in Brussels, Tokyo and Dubai.
I have significant teaching experience at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in politics and IR at top universities, which I have drawn upon to assist my private tutoring students over several years.
In particular, I have assisted students with their work on coursework essays and dissertations, as well as preparation for exams.
I have received consistently positive feedback from my tutees and achieved excellent results with them. In the most extreme case, a master's student's grades improved from a 'failing' grade up to a 'distinction' level grade following my tuition.
I am able to offer tutoring at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in:
- International Relations
- Politics
- East Asian Studies (with particular expertise in Japan and the Koreas)
- General academic essay writing, including dissertation projects in the above subjects
Chris was extremely helpful and guided me through each step of my structure. I was so confused with my project but after my first class with Chris I feel way more confident !

"Working with Chris Deacon through The Profs has been a game-changer for me. When we first started, I had only ever achieved one distinction across all my undergraduate and postgraduate studies. But after just the first set of assignments with Chris, I saw a massive improvement in my grades, scoring two distinctions out of three assignments. I was honestly amazed by the difference his guidance has made.
As we continued to work on my dissertation, I began to see that Chris wasn’t just helping me with individual projects. He was teaching me a systematic approach to academic writing—how to structure my work, build strong arguments, and link ideas together. This wasn’t just about getting better grades in the moment; he was giving me tools that I know I’ll use throughout my future studies.
Because of Chris’s support and the help from The Profs, I’ve now secured a place in my dream PhD program. I’m incredibly grateful to Chris for everything he’s taught me and to The Profs for connecting us. If you’re looking for a tutor who genuinely cares about your progress and equips you with skills for the long term, I can’t recommend Chris and The Profs highly enough."
