I am an experienced University lecturer, both in terms of pedagogy and teaching, with focus on helping students learn to unpack and work with complex concepts, improve their writing and critical thinking skills, and ultimately understand the social and political complexity of the contemporary global environment (something that AI decidedly can't teach you).
I also have worked extensively with international students at every level of their education journey, which has helped me to understand the way in which people from different cultural backgrounds approach and parse knowledge. It has also made me better able to understand the needs of international students trying to adapt to the UK curriculum, and have given me the cultural sensitivity to provide a safe, stress-free environment.
In addition, I have a long-running interest in teaching academic reading and writing. During the past few years, I have developed multiple lectures on the topic, and I have also written several reading and writing guides for students. I am committed to providing constructive, personalised, and informative feedback on student assessments, that both highlights instances of good academic practice, and identifies and communicates weaknesses in an actionable way. This approach also helps me during dissertation supervisions, as the supervision process involves a steady stream of feedback and feed-forward. I have significant experience in supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in the fields of politics, history, sociology, and international relations.
I have designed and delivered the following modules (to 92%+ student satisfaction) across different Russel Group Universities:
Self, Identity, and Society
Social Theory
