About Me

Having spent my childhood in southeast Asia, I moved back to England to attend The Stephen Perse Foundation, where I gained eleven A*s in my 2010 GCSEs and one A at AS-Level. At Hills Road Sixth Form College I moved on to study sciences (Chemistry and Biology) and language-based subjects (History and Geography) at a higher level. At Oxford University I obtained a First Class degree (BA History) and scored the highest candidate mark in one exam paper.

I returned to complete my DPhil in Tudor and Stuart history with an ‘outstanding’ pass (Examiner’s Report, 2024). I have acted as a leading undergraduate admissions interviewer (History BA and joint Schools) since 2016, making me one of the youngest-ever admissions interviewers for History.

Tutor Experience

I have taught Biology, Chemistry, Physics -- and History -- from 11+ through to A-Level/IB HL for over ten years, clocking up over 2500 hours in London and Oxford, as well as with international clients online.

Subjects covered in the last year in capacity as private tutor include: sole responsibility for homeschooling three A-Level and IGCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Physics students; providing six students one-on-one tuition in A-Level, IB, and (I)GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History, and Physics (AQA, CIE, Edexcel); HAT preparation for three Oxford-entry candidates and another mature student; essay-writing help to two undergraduate students (History); preparing five students for their common entrance and three further students for the Winchester academic scholarship and exhibition exams in science.

Topic Expertise

Tutoring expertise

While every pupil and their interests and needs are different, I place an emphasis on past paper practice and inspection of previous mark schemes wherever possible. This is especially salient given the very specialised and particular vocabulary required by mark schemes in order to hit those top marks (particularly in the sciences).

School entry

Having obtained an academic scholarship via written exam to the prestigious Stephen Perse Foundation (Cambridge) when I myself was fourteen years old, I am especially sympathetic to children undergoing the rigorous school entrance process. Previous students have secured entry to Winchester, scholarships to Eton, Harrow, and Tonbridge at 13+ and 16+, and entry to Wycombe Abbey at 14+.

Residential tutoring work

In 2016 I secured a Tutoring Standards Certificate (Merit). I have taught via Zoom during the summer holidays to children of highly mobile families, as well as ‘in residence’ Haddenham, Wallingford (both one week, Oxfordshire), Gloucestershire (four days), Cannes and Antibes (two weeks, France).

Teaching philosophy

These experiences facilitating young people’s progress into increasingly mature outlooks on their reality have been most successful when both parties feel at ease with each other. As such, I aspire to offer students a tutorial space which feels ‘for them’ in order that they are encouraged to reciprocate this focus on their learning.

Testimonials

I am happy to say that I have scored very high, all 8s and 9s, on my IGCSE exams! For my sciences:
An 8 on Biology, an 8 on Chemistry and a 9 on Physics. I am very satisfied with these results, especially
the sciences as I did not expect to score such high on Chemistry. I would like to thank you for all of
your help over that last 2-3 years. Without your help, I not only wouldn't have done this well on my
exams, but I also would not have come to love science nearly as much as I do now. I am currently on
track to take Physics as one of my A-Level subjects so I will definetly let you know how it goes. I really
hope we can stay in touch. Thank you, once again, for everything
IGCSE student, Tokyo

Olimpia is really happy of the lessons she has taken with you. You will be pleased to know she is now
considering taking Biology HL at IB, when before she was not even considering taking Biology full
stop!
Mum of IB (Diploma) student, Milan

Just to say thank you for all your work with Hardy. He got a 9 in Physics and an 8 in Chemistry and
Biology. Wonderful results! This means he decided to go with Physics… Thank you so much for taking
on Hardy and bringing him on so much in a short space of time. We were not that hopeful for his
Biology, I cannot lie.
Mum of IGCSE student, London

I wish we had started earlier with you! He loves working with you.
Mum of GCSE student at Eton

Thank you ever so much for your support over the past months tutoring Kingsley. We truly appreciate
all the help you’ve given him and our family. He’s looking forward to his new school life. Wishing you
all the best, and I hope we can stay in touch, and arrange lessons for my daughter’s 11+.
Mum of successful Winchester scholar, London

With some angst and trepidation, Oriane read her results today and was absolutely thrilled with them.
With the help of Chloe, she has achieved a solid Grade 8 in Chemistry. The result is much stronger than
she could have hoped for a year ago… She is thrilled and I am so happy for her… She is now in a great
position to move forward to A Levels with a solid foundation behind her. Just fantastic!
Mum of Chemistry GCSE student, London

Chloe, just wanted to thank you for all the help and support you have given her over the last 12+ months.
She has come on a great deal under your tuition and certainly goes in to the exam tomorrow with the
tools she needs.
Mum of Biology A-Level student, London

Thomas was very fond of you and found your positive attitude and energy great.
Mum of Year 10 sciences student, London

[Chloe is] very likable and gets along well with Orhan. Orhan enjoys the classes and retains the
knowledge he has learned (we just talked about an enzyme in the mouth during lunch an hour ago :)).
Mum of Tonbridge School entrance examinee, Istanbul

Today I received my iGCSE grades, and I just wanted to let you know how I did. I got all eight GCSEs
grade 9s, including a grade 9 in Physics with a score of 170/180, and a grade 9 in Biology with 162/180.
I wanted to thank you for your help during our lessons and reviews of past papers, which I found very
effective, and definitely payed off. I will be taking Physics A-Level this year, and may need a bit of help
at some point, and if so, I will contact you!
GCSE Student, Madrid

Alex always says he truly enjoys the lessons with you and he learns a lot from you.
Mum of Year 9 Physics student, Tokyo

I wanted to feedback that Rebecca’s attitude towards your two subjects does appear to have improved
markedly when talking to her. I think perhaps she’s also growing in confidence and setting herself
higher aspirations. So many thanks, and I hope you will be available to continue working with her.
