I am an experienced private tutor, having delivered over 3,000 1:1 lessons. I have tutored History at GCSE, A Level, undergraduate and postgraduate levels with great success. My students have gone on to obtain As and A*s in their subjects and have benefitted from the confidence obtained during my sessions. Additionally, I tutor HAT for Oxford as well as help History applicants to all universities in the UK and USA. I have an in-depth knowledge of the university application processes and can help perfect personal statements and prepare candidates for interview. I have a DPhil (PhD) in History at the University of Oxford and have a great passion for the subject and enjoy teaching, using it as a way to can transfer my passion and interest to students wishing to gain important and versatile skills from the subject.
I have been tutoring for five years and have delivered over 3,000 sessions to students who have found my lessons engaging and thought-provoking. Before plunging into detailed analysis or sessions centred around more nuanced subjects, I introduce students to the broader concepts and applications of History, emphasising the subject's versatility and depth. These foundational principles are then linked to the core analytical skills that are useful for understanding what historical analysis is and how it can be used at A Level and beyond. Each of my lessons refer to these skills and develop them to ensure that students are confident in their understanding of the analytical and narrative components of their field of study. These analytical skills form the basis for essay writing and written communication more broadly. They are inseparably linked and the lessons that we have together will reinforce the importance of approach and communication to demystify the analytical process.
I have a broad range of interest and expertise. I have taught nearly all A Level courses. I have greatest expertise in British, European, and American history from around 1450 onwards. However, I have also taught courses focussed on China, Japan, India, and Africa from 1700 onwards.
