After completing an MA in History at Birkbeck College, and with a huge passion for my subject, I moved into teaching 9 years ago, working as a Head of Department for the past 5 years. I love planning lessons and devising new strategies to help students learn and to pass on my enthusiasm for History. As a tutor, I always try to make lessons fun and engaging and place a lot of emphasis on building students' confidence in order to help them become better independent learners.
Outside of teaching, I maintain a keen interest in my subject, reading around social and cultural history in particular. Although no cordon bleu, I'm a bit of an amateur chef and also a self-confessed music nerd with a proud collection of vinyl records – everything from ambient to Zamrock!
2016-2021: Head of Humanities and Head of History - Greig City Academy
2013-2016: History, Politics and RE Teacher - Ashcroft Technology Academy (IB school)
In this time I have been an examiner for Edexcel and have built up a detailed knowledge of exam board specifications and what examiners are looking for when they mark work. This helps me to support students with their exam technique.
I also have experience of training other teachers in different teaching and learning strategies, for example revision skills. I understand that students revise in different ways and am able to help them feel more confident in studying independently and preparing for exams.
I have extensive experience of supervising students through their A Level and IB Coursework and helping them to craft well-argued and informed essays that achieve the highest marks.

His classes were extremely helpful for me: I soon saw a lot of progress, and skills develop for my IB higher level history. I would absolutely recommend him, he was very good at making classes engaging and personalising his teaching style towards the student.
Very engaging!
Inspired confidence. Very measured. We are keen to work with him.
