I have been an international canoe slalom athlete and a coach for the GB under 16 team, having been involved in the development of several young athletes who went on to become Olympians, one a Gold Medalist at the London Olympics. My coaching qualifications have currently lapsed but I intend to renew them when possible. I am passionate about the sport of canoeing and can often be found in my boat during my free time. I am also an enthusiastic hiker, cyclist, and snow boarder when I can get the opportunity. I have a real passion for Early Modern History, and have been gradually building a small library of historical reference books, novels and plays, although it is History in all its aspects that i am passionate about, whether it is in reading, viewing or visiting sites, or just discussing ideas with like minded enthusiasts.
I have taught History from Years 6 to 13, including the Cambridge IGCSE Option B since 2009. I have taught a variety of topics at A Level, including the Cold War, the Russian Revolution, Tudor Rebellions English Revolution of the Seventeenth Century, and the American Revolution to Civil War, in addition to other courses in British, German and American History taught at schools in the UK, I have also written and delivered IGCSE and A Level courses in Government and Politics and Sociology, and taught Geography to Key Stage 3. I was a key member of the working party evaluating the Global Citizenship provision of Wellington College for the College’s application for Council of International School status and also operated as the Key Stage 2 link coordinator for History, facilitating the progression of Year 6 into Year 7. I therefore believe I have the experience and flexibility to adapt quickly and effectively to teaching any aspect of the Humanities curriculum. I have several years experience of teaching online as well as face to face and currently work as a leader of learning teaching history online to students based in the Middle East.
I am an innovative, passionate and outstanding classroom practitioner and department leader with more than 25 years experience of teaching across the range of Humanities subjects, and while it is History teaching that excites the greatest passion within me, I also thoroughly enjoy my Geography teaching, and have successfully taught GCSE and A Level courses in Government and Politics and Sociology. I have taught all of the main exam boards at GCSE and A Level, most recently AQA at GCSE and OCR at A Level. I have also been a GCSE examiner for AQA My experience has included many years of Humanities teaching in schools in the UK, China, and Kuwait. I am committed to placing the needs of the individual child at the centre of my practice and inspiring them to develop a subject mastery and a lifelong passion for learning.
From Tia, Year 11. "I want to express my gratitude for your support as my tutor. Though we haven't known each other for long, your welcoming and approachable demeanor has made a positive impression. Your guidance and willingness to assist with any concerns has made my transition into Year 11 a lot easier. Thank you for creating a supportive atmosphere, and i look forward to continuing my Year 11 journey with you as my tutor."
