My work has established new fundamental theoretical frameworks, shaping international research agendas and stimulating lively debate. I’ve taught advanced theoretical physics to students at all levels, from A-level to PhD, bringing the clarity, rigour, and insight of world-class, frontier research into every session.
Whether you’re aiming for top grades, preparing for interviews, or simply want to explore physics beyond the textbook, I'll offer expert, engaging guidance to help you reach your full potential.
As for me? I enjoy spending time with my family - my wife, our two young daughters, and our old dog, searching for butterflies in the Yorkshire countryside!
I teach master's modules in quantum physics and supervise PhD, master's, and BSc students, and I host research placements for A-level students.
I have directly supported A-level student progression to higher education by providing UCAS references and tailored academic mentorship, helping them secure places at top universities, including the University of Oxford.
My tuition and academic leadership are underpinned by extensive and varied high-quality, institutionally accredited training. I adopt a student-centred approach to tuition, beginning by asking: Are there any gaps in foundational knowledge and understanding? What specific topics need attention? What opportunities will a student need to practise and consolidate their learning, and what specific support will they require from me to do so? Effective active learning nearly always risks some form of open failure and intellectual self-exposure [D. M. Bauer, Pedagogy (2007) 7 (2): 157–170]. I cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment wherein students are comfortable with this vulnerability and feel empowered to engage actively. I establish clear learning outcomes and design activities and assessments to align with those goals. I break down complex ideas into accessible steps, nurturing growth and deep understanding, and I teach adaptively, responding to students’ needs as they develop academic confidence.
