About Me

I tutor individuals and also groups in schools, sixth form Colleges and Russell group universities. I was a lecturer at Imperial College for 26 years where I was an admissions tutor, senior tutor and postgraduate tutor and became deputy director of the Graduate school. I won the Rectors award for excellence in teaching at Imperial College twice. I have recent experience of tutoring and one to one teaching and also of tutoring in four central London schools, namely the City and Islington college, the Harris academy St Johns Wood, St Saviours and St Olave' school and the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson school, Islington.

In my spare time I like to swim, exercise in the gym and kayak. I also love to travel and have lived and worked in Singapore, Sydney, Dallas and on a short placement in the Punjab. I support QPR more in hope than in expectation!

Tutor Experience

I am a highly experienced tutor of Science and Mathematics and about 70% of my tutoring is currently online. I tutor students from the ages of 14 years upwards, preparing them for their entrance exams and for their GCSE and A level exams, and University exams and resits. I also assist students with their UCAS and Post-Graduate applications and for university interviews and have recent experience of teaching students for exams such as GAMSAT. I have successfully helped several students prepare for school entrance exams. Recently I won a prize as the best new tutor at the Profs (2019), and last academic year my six A level Physics students achieved A*, A*, A*, A*, A* and A respectively.

My aim is to help my students to reach their full academic potential and get the grades they deserve. I believe in making sure that the underlying fundamental concepts are fully understood as this provides a solid foundation. There is nothing more rewarding than a student saying, "oh yes, now I get it". My tutoring style is to seek to identify the key areas where support is required and then patiently and sympathetically to help and encourage my tutees to master these areas. I have a post-graduate teaching degree and have taught in a number of Schools, Colleges and Universities.

I tutor Physics and Materials at University level, A level and GCSE level and Maths and Chemistry at GCSE level as well.

As a former University admissions tutor I have an in depth understanding of UCAS application and interview processes.

I also have experience of other tutoring for other qualifications such a GAMSAT.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you very much for your brilliant help with tutoring for his maths. He really enjoyed his lessons and he found them very useful. He certainly became much more confident with maths. He did say that the second paper was made much easier for him as a lot of the things you had taught him came up.
