As can be understood from my qualifications, I love learning, teaching, and everything about education sector. I love being in interaction with students and with people learning new things. When I receive a message from a student at the end of the term stating that they loved my course, I feel like my work is worth it!
I completed a double major in my undergraduate in Psychology and in Political Science and International Relations but my intellectual curiosity led me to another social science discipline in my PhD: Sociology. I love making students discover that sociology is about our everyday lives and that we can have sociological analyses about every mundane aspect of everyday life, even having a coffee.
I love swimming; it is my favourite exercise, and I try to go to the pool a couple of times a week. Actually, I love everything about water; being in the water, looking at the water, and travelling through the water. :)
I have extensive teaching and tutoring experience both in the UK and in Turkey, both online and offline. When I was a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Edinburgh, I tutored for three years for undergraduate students: I organised small-group discussion tutorials in sociology; I marked all the course assessments; I provided pastoral care and support for students. I tutored general sociology courses, research methods, and I also provided guidance for Honours undergraduate students in their sociology projects.
I also lectured at a private university in Istanbul for all levels of undergraduate students for one academic year. As my background also includes Psychology by training, I have also taught social psychology courses. During my lectureship, I organised the whole syllabi for my courses, marked all the course assessments, and provided mentorship and guidance to students for their postgraduate applications. As most of the students I lectured were lacking academic essay writing experience, I also devoted a significant amount of time to provide feedback on their essays. By their final assignments, there was significant progress in most students in terms of their academic writing. During this period, I also tutored Turkish as a foreign language via Skype.
In the summer of 2020, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I tutored English online, and I prepared a guest lecture online by creating a narration voiceover to my Powerpoint slides, so I am familiar with online teaching methods, and I am willing to improve on it.
