I was educated at University of Oxford (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) and University of Nottingham (MA and PhD in Politics/International Relations).
I was a university lecturer for 20 years, working at various UK institutions. I taught politics, foreign/security policy, international relations, essay skills, qualitative research methods and discourse analysis.
I published many books and articles across my research interests, including high selling textbooks on International Relations Theory and UK Politics. I was also a media pundit, did policy advice and helped write political speeches. I was external examiner at a number of UK institutions, helping improve degree programmes as well as supervising individual postgraduate students to doctoral level.
I held research fellowships at University of Berkeley, California (2010) and University of Cambridge (2019-2020). In 2020 I was awarded the Best Article prize by the European International Studies Association for my article in Global Affairs on 'Global Britain: The Discursive Construction of Britain's Post-Brexit World Role'.
A former undergraduate officer at two UK universities, I can also help with personal statements in support of university degree applications.
The bit of the job I most enjoyed was working one to one with students, to enable them to reach their full academic potential, hence my move to online tutoring.
In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog, most sports and home renovation.

Oliver's insights are always so helpful, he is really very knowledgeable when it comes to discourse analysis and no matter what the focus on your work is he is very apt at applying his knowledge to help you configure your specific thoughts. Thanks so much!
Really great session, very productive, Oliver has a great way of helping the jumbled ideas in my head come out and form good, structured dissertation sentences haha
Very informative and helpful lesson.
"Oliver was a fantastic help to me while writing my dissertation. He really helped me organise a daunting project into manageable pieces, and was able to answer questions small and large. He is very flexible in terms of scheduling sessions and makes time to help whenever he can. On top of that, his incredible bank of knowledge makes me confident that he could likely help anyone with any topic or project. He also makes the effort to gain more knowledge about your specific project to make him all the more knowledgeable. Finally, he is very kind, patient and sincere. His gentle and comic demeanour actually makes tutoring sessions fun and productive. I’m very lucky and glad that I got in touch with Oliver and would recommend him to anyone needing a tutor." - Alexa (April 2023) "Oliver helped me from beginning to end and ultimately tutored me towards receiving the highest grade I have gotten so far in graduate school! He was respectful and thoughtful and helped think about the right topic, pare it down, and gave a few rounds of feedback that helped transform the paper from a good paper to an excellent paper! Highly recommend!" - Mollie (April 2023) "You've been a massive help, the best tutor I have experienced on the website so far. I will 100% come back with any more essays that align with your profile" - Molly (January 2023). "Has been very helpful in helping me understand my course's content and explaining both assessment requirements while also assisting in how to present/structure my arguments very well" - James (January 2023).
