I graduated from North London International School in May 2012, with an IB Dipoma score of 44/45, in the top 1% of students globally. I scored the maximum grade of 7/7 at all three of my Higher Level subjects: English Literature, History, and Theatre Studies, as well as top grades in Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.
I won a full scolarship to study Philosophy and English literature with professor AC Graying at the University of London. I graduated in 2016 with a first class degree.
I have worked as an IB Diploma tutor since 2015, specialising in essay writing and critical thinking skills. I also work as a mentor to IB Diploma students and philosophy undergraduates, supporting with study planning.
When not tutoring, I am an accomplished classical pianist and a qualified cricket coach.
I teach Theory of Knowledge, Philosophy, Theatre, History, and - most commonly - English (both literature and language).
I support students in developing the critical thinking and written communication skills neccesary to produce high-level essays for IB Diploma examinations and internal assessments. I have a strong track record teaching intelligent but under-achieving students how to focus their ideas into coherent essays; I also take pleasure in stretching the highest achievers who might feel held back by the pace of learning in their classroom.
To do well in IB literature, arts, and humanities subjects, students must do three things: read attentively, think critically about what they have read, and communicate their thoughts clearly in writing. I take great pleasure in supporting my students to develop their curiosity and ability in all three of these areas; my classes combine wide-reaching conversations around the themes of our source texts with rigorous analysis of the student's written work.
I have developed my approach over a decade of one-to-one tutoring, teaching over 150 students in London and online. I have also worked as a study mentor to IB Diploma and undergraduate students, and led small group classes in exam preparation and essay writing for the IB. I have consistently coached students to exceed their predicted grades and successfully prepared students for Oxbridge interviews and examinations.
IB Diploma: English A, ToK, Philosophy, Theatre, EE.
I keep abreast of all curriculum and assessment developments within my subjects.
"From our very first class, I could tell that Paul was different from all my other tutors. He is ridiculously intelligent, and this inspired me to want to learn so much. Our discussions were riveting, relevant, and so rigorous. He held me to the highest stands of critical thinking, and helped me appreciate that my chosen IB subjects were both important and endlessly fascinating. When it came to crunch time, his exam tips and essay writing techniques were killer, I shared them with all my friends at school, and I graduated with a far better grade than I could have hoped for. The best IB tutor you’re going to find!" Ruby Vaser, IB Graduate 2019
"I used not to like English literature. I'd use Spark Notes and would try anything to get good grades without putting in too much work. But in every text we studied, Paul helped me find something that I cared about and encouraged me to make bold analyses. Thanks to him, I surprised everyone by scoring a 7 at English HL, and am now studying Literature and Philosophy at Durham University." John Kinsey, IB Graduate 2022
