About Me
I am a passionate classroom teacher and private tutor, having taught students in a range of contexts across my career. My bachelor's degree in psychology has been invaluable in my teaching practise, enabling me to have a driven yet empathetic approach to my students. Students find the sciences and mathematics difficult for a series of reasons. My adaptive teaching approach ensures that students first feel capable of improving and adopt a growth mindset before addressing the gaps in knowledge and exam technique.
Alongside my teaching practise, I lead the mentoring of trainee and newly qualified teachers at my employment school. Using the pedagogy I have tried and tested, I work to develop highly effective practitioners within secondary education, ensuring students receive a high-quality and engaging education.
Tutor Experience
I have 8 years of experience teaching students in the United Kingdom, Japan, Nigeria and China. During this time, I have taught the KS3 science curriculum, AQA, Edexcel GCSE and IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics and the AQA A-Level Biology curriculum. I have supported students climb from U to grade 6/B, as well as supported students to secure A* at A-Level.
As a classroom teacher, I have an excellent track record of boosting engagement and achievement, with my current cohort of A-Level students climbing on average 3 grades from their November to February mock assessments.
My teaching style emphasises the importance of practise within and between our sessions. I use my sessions to build the necessary foundations for students to effectively study on a regular basis. Students are taught content and/or exam technique and are supported to take on the personal responsibility to consolidate their learning between lessons. I provide tailored material at the end of each session, which is reviewed at the beginning of the subsequent lesson, to ensure content and skills have been embedded.
