About Me

I am a former teacher, now tutor!

During my teaching career I always preferred working one-to-one or in small groups with my students, so I have moved into tutoring to get more opportunity to work in this way.

I LOVE teaching - it is a privilege to be working with young people who have a fiery passion for arguing their perspective and who bring so many ideas to the table. Together we can help shape your passions and allow you to channel this into your essays.

About me - I am very politically engaged and run a local political reading group, or can be found campaigning against climate change. I'm also going to many dance classes, despite not having taken dance classes as a child I am to catch up now as an adult, and slowly slowly I am getting better as a dancer! So I also know what is like to be studying something difficult!

Tutor Experience

Teaching -
2022-23: Toryglen School (Glasgow, UK)
2021-22: St. Brides School (Glasgow, UK)
2021-22: St. Fillans School (Glasgow, UK)

I have worked in both mainstream and specialised Additional Support Needs (ASN) classroom settings. I am experienced with ASN needs and with adaptive teaching methods.

Topic Expertise

I specialise in developing critical thinking skills and enjoy teaching through leading debates and dialogue. I have found that this allows students to engage with historical or political arguments more intuitively than in essay writing, and I work on the basis that essay writing skills grow out of this ability to engage in discursive conversation.

I can help develop your capacity to question historical material from different perspectives, allowing you to be more critical of sources or of received historical narratives. For me, history is a lot more than just learning facts and dates, it is about how we think about the past and apply it to the present. I will encourage you to make comparisons and contrasts with today so as to help bring history to life.
