Online Biology Tutor Emma

I gained my undergraduate Microbiology with Genetics BSc Hons. degree at Cardiff College, University of Wales in 1990. After moving to London in 1991 I enrolled on a PGCE course at the Strawberry Hill campus, specialising in Secondary Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences. I gained QTS in 1992 when I started teaching secondary school and have been tutoring since 1994.

I enjoy working with students of all abilities including those with spectrum disorders, home schooled, learning difficulties and very high achievers. Although trained primarily in Science, I also very much enjoy teaching maths to GCSE level as well as Geography, Art and English.

I have prepped many students for the 11+ and 13+ Common Entrance Exams for Winchester College, UCS, Highgate, Channing and others. I have invested many intensive years of exam revision in GCSEs and some A level Biology and Chemistry. My usual procedure is to work steadily (weekly) with students to build up a portfolio of notes over several months, or even better years, with which to revise for exams.

I have a relaxed style with students and try coax out what they know with kindness and encouragement. I employ diagrams to illustrate discussion and boost terminology with definition and equation lists. I will support any willing student by building their confidence in topics of subjects they are unfamiliar with and allow them to shine.
When I am not working in education, I work on short films and music videos - writing and directing, play trumpet, draw, write lyrics and music, make costumes for my band performances and design images for live VJing at concerts and festivals.
