Why study TEFL?
TEFL stands for 'Teaching English as a foreign language.' A TEFL certificate is the most universally recognised and accepted English teaching credential in the world. Colleges, Schools, employers, and other language institutes around the world value a TEFL diploma more than any other certificate.
The most popular options, and the ones that will allow you to work at any accredited English school around the world, are the Celta and TESOL. There are many other TEFL certificates available too, and our tutors can help with all of them.
The reason why you should study for TEFL certification is that it will boost your confidence, allow you to work in practically any country on the planet - so give your CV an international flair - which employers find very attractive.
While there is no standard method to getting TEFL certified, it is possible to complete a CELTA or TESOL in as little as a month, if studying full-time. That said, to advance further through the profession, you will need to build up a lot of hours and also take more advanced qualifications.
There are three ways you can get TEFL certified: taking an online course, attending an on-site course in an English-speaking country or getting certified abroad. The most famous teacher-training centres are in the UK, but there are certified centres all over the world. We strongly advise that you make sure you know what your course will qualify you for if taking an online qualification, or one at a non CELTA/TESOL accredited centre.
What careers can studying CELTA/TESOL lead to?
A TEFL certification is the gateway to hundreds of international jobs in private language institutes, schools, colleges, universities and public educational institutions around the world. You can obviously teach English in your home country. However, the number one place you can use your TEFL certificate is abroad.
Most international employers are seeking teachers who have at least a CELTA, TESOL or equivalent TEFL certification. This means that having a certificate will help you get noticed by more international recruiters and open up many possibilities of finding employment around the world.
Many TEFL certified people work as travel bloggers, freelance writers and translators. You can also become a senior teacher or an Academic Coordinator, Director of Studies, or a TEFL trainer. You can also open your own language school.
How does TEFL help with international employment?
By having TEFL on your resume, you will be able to apply for jobs in countries where you may not otherwise be able to live and work. According to British Council and Brigham Young University research, nearly 80% of all EFL schools prefer candidates for a teaching position who have some form of teaching certification over those that don't. People with TEFL certificates tend to be better prepared, harder working and ultimately more successful international teachers.
How expert TEFL tutoring can help you
Teachers will take the time to assess your starting point then develop a personalised syllabus to work towards your objectives. Online classes will focus on your areas of weakness and on developing the confidence you need to achieve your goals. Lessons will also push students in areas that they are already comfortable in, encouraging constant improvement and developing positive learning habits.

Is 'TEFL tutor wanted' a suitable title for my advert?
Although this is maybe not the worst bad opening line, we strongly recommend that you give it some more thought. What do you need? What are you trying to achieve? Think about what level you are and what you need to improve on, whether you need help with GCSE level guidance, or help with a University admissions letter, put it in your advert.
For example, a great opening for many of our clients could be: ‘TEFL support required to help with Oxbridge Admissions Test’. The more details, the better the match!
