I have taught Classics in secondary schools for 16 years (most recently as Head of Classics), and have loved the languages, literature, history and archaeology of Greece and Rome for even longer!

Having written language courses for my own students in recent years, I have recently left school teaching to tutor privately and to write a book on the literary, historical and archaeological sources to Virgil's Aeneid. I also do some academic support work as 'study skills tutor' for students with special educational needs (including ASD, dyslexia, etc.)
Within the classical world, I particularly enjoy reading Greek literature (Homer, lyric, tragedy, comedy and Hellenistic) as well as Latin poetry of the Late Republican and Augustan periods (esp. Catullus, Virgil, Horace and Propertius). I am also working on making some videos on Athens and Greek history in the 5th century BC, which I hope to publish to YouTube.
Outside of Classics, I love the natural world and photographing wildlife and landscapes, and as well as several wildlife excursions in the UK I have been fortunate enough to travel with students to Guyana, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Madagascar and Poland to do so.
I have taught Classics for 16 years in three secondary schools, in the last as Head of Classics.
In that time I have taught Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation at beginners' level, GCSE, A Level and IB, as well as some RS and Philosophy; I have prepared students for Oxbridge entrance for Classics and have been a pastoral and academic tutor to pupils from Year 9 to 13, and have written UCAS and 'Common Application' references (for both Classical and other subjects) and helped students with personal statements; I even ran a Classics outreach programme for 3 years, visiting primary schools to run sessions on Pompeii, the ancient Olympics, an introduction to Latin and Greek myth! During my MPhil, I also tutored in Latin and Greek language (translation and composition) and in Greek tragedy to 1st, 2nd and 4th year undergraduates at my former college in Oxford.
I am perhaps one of the few who enjoyed online tutoring from 2020 onwards, and find the personal approach of one-to-one tutoring particularly rewarding. I believe lessons should be fun, enjoyable, and be a real conversation - a meeting of minds not just between student and tutor, but between us and the topic or text we are studying!
