PGCE Biology, BSc Hons 2:1 Microbiology, 20 years' teaching experience including the last 7 years tutoring A-level Biology to around 350 tutees as individuals or groups. Excellent results with all tutees improving beyond their target grade. Many successful potential Medics, Vets, Dentists and Biology students have gained A* in Biology A-level and managed to secure a place at their first choice University following weekly tuition. On-line tuition only. I am a very approachable, friendly tutor with a wealth of knowledge regarding examination technique. I have the ability to simplify all theory ensuring the tutees build on their basic knowledge and then secure full understanding. I endeavour to ensure all theory is grounded before applying the knowledge to examination style questions. I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
I have already had multiple happy clients in previous tutoring roles, who helped to take that step up from B to A* or D to B. I undertook my teacher training (PGCE) at the UCL Institute of Education, the number 1 teacher training course in the world. I have worked throughout the East of England, in London, and at Abbey College International school in Cambridge. In addition, I am a current examiner for A level economics for a popular exam board. These experiences allow me to guarantee you an experience tailored to your needs. I use past paper training and exam technique to maximise your ability to perform under pressure.
I have worked for Spires for 5 years, and have considerable experience teaching young adults. I have coached rugby and tutored informally for nearly 10 years, and when I joined Oxford University in 2014 I began to tutor professionally.
I stand out as an A Level tutor due to my experience at identifying how young adults think and learn - especially when they are confused or distressed - and tailoring my tutoring accordingly. My aim is to instill calmness and build confidence, by getting to know my students and identifying their underlying issues. This allows me to help them develop a deep-rooted and permanent understanding, at top speed.
When it comes to maths and science, miscommunication is often the biggest problem! Not everyone clicks perfectly with their teacher. This is where I would love to help.
After completing a Masters in Astrophysics and BA in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University (grade 2.1), I received my teaching qualification (PGCE) in Science from Oxford University. I have been teaching Physics and Science in a secondary school for three years. Every student I have taught A level to has met or exceeded their target grade, (most received either an A* or an A).
I have extensive experience of all topics and know what examiners of GCSE and A level are looking for. I will provide exam questions and ensure that all areas of the relevant specification are covered in enough detail. I will focus on helping you to understand the subject deeply and know how to apply your knowledge in exam questions. With these tools your confidence and enjoyment of Physics / Science will definitely increase!
I teach A-level maths and further maths, GCSE, iGCSE, OCR FSMQ, the QTS Numeracy test and STEP Assignments.
I have been a professional tutor for over 30 years and have taught online for 7 years. I have helped to improve the results and confidence of many different types of students. Often I have been asked to tutor younger siblings and get new students via recommendations.
For the further maths A level I can assist with CP1, CP2, FM1 and FP1.
I recently received my PhD in History at King’s College London. Whilst I would consider myself a historian of modern British, social and cultural history, during my studies at BA, MA and doctorate level I have also acquired expertise in an array of diverse historical eras and themes. I also taught history undergraduate seminars at KCL on various modules including Early Modern Europe, Modern Britain, and History and Memory. During my years teaching history at KCL, I taught hundreds of students of varying abilities and I really enjoyed helping develop their historical learning and sharing my passion for history whilst nurturing theirs. My tutoring sessions are tailored towards the specific needs and goals of my students. Whether these are improving grades, keeping on top of homework, preparation for coursework and exams, or simply needing an explanation of specific concepts, I’m here to provide a session that meets your requirements. I will identify both short and long term issues the student may have with their courses, and establish solutions and goals for solving them. History learning can often be typecast as a monotonous process of memorising dates, speeches and battles, and I want to encourage my students to adopt different ways of thinking about history that encourage critical analysis and varying interpretations of the past.
I am a full-time Computer Science teacher and guide my daytime students to impressive grades in Computing. My keenest students in years 9 and 10 are already working towards an AS-Level in Computer Science to supplement and support the GCSE course. I set my students' goals high.
I'm very adept at helping students cut through confusion, focus on precise language and find the focus in theory topics to deliver mark-scheme friendly answers in examinations.
I'm a postgraduate at The University of Oxford, and already hold a Congratulatory First in German (BA) with the best results of the 200 students in the Languages department, as well as the highest grades in Arts subjects at my college.
I also have over four years of tutoring experience, from primary through to GCSE, A Level, and undergraduate. It's a consistent delight to celebrate tutees' successes - be it getting to grips with a thorny bit of grammar, having a 'eureka!' moment with a tricky piece of literature, or passing exams with flying colours.
There can be no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to a tutoring session. Every tutee has different likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and will progress at an individual pace. I can help with anything from oral presentations and spoken fluency, to essays, literature, and grammar (having personally tried all the tips and tricks!).
I have more than four years experience in tutoring, both one to one and small groups.
I work at Kaplan International College where I teach Chemistry, maths and Statistics at Foundation level.
I have extensive experience in working with children, teenagers and adults.
I think that the role of a private tutor is to teach effectively a subject, develop self-confidence in the student and teach him/her to study in autonomy.
I have just retired after 40 years teaching chemistry. Head of Chemistry for the last 35 years and in Charge of Science for the last 22 years. Winner of the 2016 Royal Society of Chemistry Education Award, I have an extensive website and YouTube Channel to provide post lesson support. A home tutor of GCE Chemistry, using CCEA, AQA and EDEXCEL specifications.
I recently took up a senior position with the CCEA examining team for GCE Chemistry and as a result I am unable to tutor students for that specification.
Comfortable with teaching online using the Spires platform, I have an enormous bank of teaching and assessment resources available at the click of a mouse.
