Henriette $35-45/hr

Classics (1st) - University of Oxford

Over the past two years I have tutored students regularly in Latin, Ancient Greek, Classics, English Literature and Essay writing. I am familiar with the OCR syllabuses for Latin, Greek and Classics both at GCSE and A-level, and have developed my own resources designed to tackle set texts, unseen passages, translation from English into Latin/Greek and to reach the required level of grammatical understanding. I have also tutored a pupil for Latin IB, including the research dossier. During university, I took up Latin and Ancient Greek from scratch, so I can vividly understand the frustrations and difficulties which arise when learning Ancient languages. This has made me explore alternative methods of learning vocabulary and improving grammar through texts, rather than tables.

I have tutored pupils who need to gain top grades to take up their Oxbridge offers, and pupils struggling at school in need of extra support. As such, I develop my resources and teaching methods depending on the individual needs, aims and interests of the students. I am able to provide exam-style passages, vocabulary tests and writing tasks if desired.

During my final year of University, I volunteered in a local primary school on a programme called 'Literacy through Latin', teaching latin to a group of year six pupils, particularly those eligible for pupil premium. The project aims to use Latin to improve literacy, and so I developed latin games, exercises and creative projects. For this project I received training from the Kings College London education department.

In addition to these regular students, I have tutored pupils for competition essays, including those for the St John's College Oxford prize and the Mary Renault Prize, encouraging high-achieving pupils to think creatively and write fluently. I also have experience tutoring a mature graduate Psychology student in essay writing skills, helping them to improve their writing style ahead of a final dissertation.

Henriette's last completed A Level Latin job with Louisa : 1-2 hrs/week - I am looking for help with writing English- Latin as my A Level is very soon and I do not seem to be improving. I would like some general guidance as to how to best approach a translation as I struggle to identity the clauses needed.

keiran $35-45/hr

Classics - University of Cambridge

I have tutored Latin and Ancient Greek for a year now and find it incredibly satisfying. My past experience tutoring students of varying abilities and enthusiasm for the languages has really helped to clarify my teaching approach. I really enjoy helping students achieve their goals in these challenging languages and always try to provide interesting set-texts and homework assignments to facilitate understanding of some potentially dry grammatical topics. As a general rule I like to gear each tutorial around a passage of Latin or Greek and use the text as a springboard for questions on grammatical and linguistic constructions as well as translation techniques.

keiran's last completed A Level Latin job with Olivia : Occasional - I am doing OCR a level latin outside of school and really need an A. It is the new H443 course. I would be grateful for any support on translation or the verse literature exam - I am doing the Aeneid book 8: 86–279, 558–584 and book 10. I do not know how to spot the types of language features they will ask for in questions such as "how does Virgil make this description sorrowful/vivid/exciting in lines X"

Daniel $40-50/hr

English Language and Literature - University of Oxford

Having been tutored myself between the age of 10-11, and having tutored others over the last few years, I recognise the importance of a flexible and personal approach to the process of learning; what works for one does not work for all. I realise that students will want different things out of their lessons. For some it will be a rigorous application of the prescribed curriculum in preparation for a certain exam/set of exams, others may want to explore an area of interest more generally, as a supplement to their everyday schooling. I believe I am a tutor who can cater to both types of student.

My experience teaching students of all ages, of all backgrounds, from all parts of the world, affords me a firm basis for tutoring in my specified subject areas. Feedback I have received describes me as engaging, personable, yet demanding. From my own education I realise that we learn most efficiently when stretched, and this is the ethos I hope to instil in others; the ability to cope when made to think about topics in different ways, and being able to derive enjoyment from doing so.

I have recently completed my undergraduate studies at Oxford, and am currently enrolled on a post-graduate course. I am therefore very much still engaged with the process of learning. I can be flexible with my time, and am happy to discuss and talk through any sort of lesson plan or specific subject area (from those specified in my profile) you feel best suits your needs.

Classics and English, English Literature 1550-1700, English - University of Oxford (BA, MSt); University of Fribourg (PhD)

I'm an enthusiastic teacher with lots of experience working with young people of different ages and abilities. As well as tutoring English, Latin and Classics to students from primary to degree level, I've taught drama to teenagers and English at IB summer schools. I'm familiar with the AQA, OCR, Edexcel and WJEC exam boards. I believe that I've got the creativity, organisation and communication skills that make a good tutor, as well as specialised knowledge and heaps of enthusiasm!

Stephanie's last completed A Level Latin job with Sophia: Intensive - I have an offer from Oxford for AAA and I do A level Latin. My predicted grade for Latin is an A but would obviously love to do even better! I want to improve my comprehension skills and also focus on long essay questions for my set texts (Cicero’s Pro Milone and bits of Ovid/Tibullus/Propertius Love elegy). I would like to have tutoring over half term, which is from the 16th to 23rd of February, because I have mocks afterwards. I’ll work hard and want to be challenged!

Classics - University of Cambridge

I graduated with a 1st from Cambridge in 2014, and since then worked as a Senior Education Worker and Team Leader at IntoUniversity, a leading education organisation in the UK. I provided long term academic and pastoral support, through tutoring and workshops in schools, and created resources and ran creative and immersive lessons and programmes for young people aged 7-18.

I am a friendly, enthusiastic tutor, aiming to help every student achieve their best! Over the years I've developed understanding and experience of how to make learning engaging and enjoyable, and suited to the student's learning preferences.

During my university holidays, I was an English Language teacher and then Director of Oxbridge Summer Camps in schools in Hong Kong which intially sparked my interest in teaching and inspired me to take on a range of professional and volunteering roles in educational tutoring and pastoral support.

I am passionate about all the creative arts - music, art, photography and drama, and have experience teaching using these methods too! At university, I studied Classics - Latin and ancient art history, and since then I have also been fascinated in Psychology and Child Development.

I think in every situation you can learn as much from your students as they can from you, so I look forward to hearing from you!

BA Ancient and Modern History - Oxford University

I'm a primary maths specialist and have worked with children from ages 4-11 in booster and extension groups. I am experienced at teaching children with gaps in their understanding and a variety of SEN. I use a concrete, pictorial and then abstract approach to building mathematical understanding with a focus on reasoning and problem solving. I am particularly experienced at teaching the KS2 primary maths curriculum but also have experience teaching the KS1 curriculum and early years number and shape, space and measure. As a teacher, I know exactly how to enable my students to pass tests particularly their KS2 SATs, maths GCSEs and 11+ examinations. I was a year 6 teacher for two years and in both years all of my maths set reached the expected level with 30% of children in my sets achieving greater depth. I have also developed an in depth understanding of the reading, writing and SPAG assessments for KS1 and 2 and have prepared whole classes and small groups for these assessments. If you haven't found your academic passion yet, I will help you find it.

I have over 4 years of experience as a tutor. I tutored throughout my time as an undergraduate at the University of Oxford both online and in person.
