I am a professional tutor who graduated from Cambridge with a 1st class BA degree and an MPhil in Education and Literature - I have been tutoring ever since.
I tailor my tutoring to best fit my student's needs and learning style. With extensive experience ranging from primary to undergraduate students, I am confident tutoring for students of different ability and interest levels.
As a published academic writer with experience of private school and Oxbridge admissions processes, I am further confident tutoring to an extremely high level of tuition for a number of top-level schools and universities. Past students have gone on to study at Harrow, Eton, a number of London private schools and of course Oxford and Cambridge, among other universities.
My successes with students are not only due to my own expertise, however, but to my passion for inspiring a love of English in my students as well! During our time together my students not only come to feel more confident in the subject, but also to enjoy it!

I am an English Literature graduate from Oxford University. I am passionate about educating young people and ensuring they reach their highest potential. To date I have worked as a private tutor, mentor, workshop facilitator and coach. As a private tutor I have taught English at GCSE and A-Level and have prepared Ox-bridge candidates, most of whom have been offered a place at Oxford or Cambridge. I have worked with Eton and Mactrac Digital Education to deliver the Eton X language programme, specialising in leadership and management skills for young students. In this role I have also interviewed and prepared prospective tutors, ensuring that tutors deliver the best in digital education. I continue to find new ways to encourage students to perform as their most confident selves when faced with an academic challenge or when trying to reach a specified goal, such as entry into a desired college or university. I have a body of experience as a workshop facilitator, including using creative writing and drama to help unlock student’s potential. I do this work on a voluntary basis and have used it to help foster confidence and initiative in young people and adults. My focus is goal orientated whilst maintaining a commitment to a highly individualised approach. Stephanie's last completed A Level English Literature job with Alison: 1-2 hrs/week - My 18 year old son is retaking his English Lit (OCR, texts Hamlet, Great Gatsby and Rossetti) as he needs better grades for his university offer. He got a B last year, which was disappointing as he was predicted A/A* and he was only 3 marks off an A. He has the scripts from last year. He would like somebody who can go through an essay with him each week that he writes in advance, and help him to improve his technique.
Stephanie's last review in A Level English Literature from Juskaran : Excellent lesson thanks
I have taught everything from music theory to English as far afield as New York and Madagascar, in classrooms, 1-to-1 and online. I have a Congratulatory First in Modern Languages from Oxford and have been tutoring a range of subjects for the last 9 years. I also have experience of living, working and studying in both France and Germany. Although my style of teaching is friendly and laid-back, I take immense pleasure from academic achievement and from inspiring others to achieve their academic goals.

English Literature job with Vanessa:
1-2 hrs/week - Hi,
I am looking for a tutor to help my son with his essay writing. He would like to study in Cambridge.
My work in Comparative Literature has always been interdisciplinary; so I enjoy finding different, engaging ways through which to help my students grapple with their subjects. Over the five years I have been with Spires, I have helped school pupils and adults alike, with everything from A Level and IGCSE English to Modern Greek language learning. I have also volunteered in schools' Autism Resource Bases, helping to support students with their work, and spent a year working for a competitive independent school assisting students with their university applications and homework.
Clio's last completed A Level English Literature job with Megan : Intensive - I am doing Edexcel ALevel English Literature (9ET0), I have my exams in under a month and am looking for someone who is able to mark quite a number of essays and give me feedback.
I have worked in a French high school (with a further education section) as an English Assistant Teacher, leading whole classes, small conversation groups, and one-on-one practices. In this role, I planned lessons, learnt effective teaching methods, and aimed to create a comfortable atmosphere for students to grow more confident in. I worked with many different departments - standard high school English, product design, international marketing, cosmetology, you name it. Everyone had different aims and purposes for learning, and thus I adapted accordingly.
Additionally, I worked at two summer schools for Japanese students coming to learn English over four summers during my degree. As a mentor, I constantly tried to make learning engaging for my students, finding a more relaxed and friendly approach to learning. An important part of learning is creating a good environment, so students who are struggling, or afraid of failing, feel comfortable enough to fulfil the potential that EVERY student has.
More recently, I have worked as a kids art teacher in an after-school programme. Art history is something seen as fairly inaccessible to kids. However, part of the challenge and fun of teaching is taking a complicated subject matter and explaining it at the student's level.
