Edward $60-70/hr

PhD - University College London

I have been tutoring art history with various companies for over a year, and I work as a Teaching Assistant in the History of Art department at UCL. I am qualified to teach the subject at all levels: from A-level to postgraduate.

I have enjoyed helping students with their essays on subjects that have been as diverse as painting in revolutionary France, feminism and fashion in 1960s Britain, and the metropolis within modernist poetry. I have researched many areas in the subject to high levels: from medieval to contemporary art.

My approach to teaching is flexible, as I build my classes around the needs of students to maximise their value. I am well qualified to provide informed feedback on essays and dissertations, and can comment on art historical content and offer guidance on essay writing skills. Likewise, I enjoy sharing my passions for art and teaching in my online video lessons, in which I discuss assignments and give short presentations to clarify topics that students are struggling with.

Whilst helping students to boost their grades, my classes are focused on making learning about culture how it should be -- both fascinating and exciting.

Edward's last completed History of Art job with Elizabeth: Over 2 hrs/week - I’m currently doing History of Art Pre-U and urgently need to improve art historical essay writing skills and how to answer questions from different papers. And definitely need more knowledge for the historical and and thematic topics since i feel like i don’t know enough to deliver a good answer featuring a number of relevant artworks.
The four historical topics I’m doing now are 1. Renaissance in Venice 2. Man the Measure of all things: High Renaissance 3. Rebellious and unconscious (Dada, constructivism through to abstract expressionism) 4. Art is about life 1970-present.

The city chosen for the thematic paper is Venice, including architectural ecclecticism, city spaces, city now, etc.

Analytical studies are paintings, sculpture, and architecture.

I’m currently predicted a D2/3 but i don’t feel confident about this exam.

Edward's last review in History of Art from Maria: Class to cover feedback on final draft of dissertation A wonderful tutor who goes above and beyond to provide detailed and considerate feedback. Edward has really helped me to develop my writing style over the last few months and has given me encouragement throughout the whole process. His expertise in all areas of art history and theory is outstanding. His work ethic is admirable as he always responded to my emails promptly and provided feedback quickly. I will miss being tutored by him and I could not recommend him enough to any prospective students!

Ross $85-95/hr

English Literature (Hons) - Cambridge University

I have been a professional tutor since 2006.

Across all of the different subjects I teach, I always notice the same thing: the main difficulty that learners encounter is getting overwhelmed by what they're trying to learn. It could be that there seems to be simply too much material to cover; it could be that the concepts seem too difficult; it could be that the whole thing causes anxiety for some completely different reason which is apparently unrelated to the 'academic' side of things.

I help remove anxiety, regardless of what form it might take, in whatever way seems like it will help each individual most. Before long, it becomes possible to see the task in hand with different eyes – indeed, more importantly, at this point most of my students come to see their own abilities entirely differently. They may have come to me with a fixed idea of what they are 'bad' at, but I help them to realise that they have skills they hardly suspected.
