I think I make a good tutor as I truly understand what it is like to come from an educational background that provides little help to be the best that you can be. I am a trained peer supporter so know how to listen to you effectively and actually understand the problems you face! I also do like english a lot, even if it can be a hard subject - I do really enjoy tasks such as close reading or proof reading!!
I have 22 years of experience in tutoring learners to achieve their goals. I tutor GCSE, A-Level, EPQ, IB, PRE-U, Undergraduate, Postgraduate/Doctoral students, UCAS and Oxbridge applicants, and professional clients in Academic Research and Writing, Creative Industries, Critical Thinking, Cultural Studies, Education, Film, Government and Politics, Marketing, Media, Oxbridge Entrance/UCAS, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Theology, Theory of Knowledge, and Social Sciences.
I combine two decades of experience in the education sector with my earlier career in the creative industries to offer engaging learning opportunities relevant to our daily lives. I am a passionate advocate of 'affective' learning and well-being through creativity, critical inquiry and philosophical reasoning. I invite you to engage in these ways of thinking that can empower you with relevant skills to support your personal growth. I have extensive experience in tutoring GCSE, A-Level, PRE-U, EPQ, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Professional learners. My presentation style is engaging and interactive. I convert complicated theories and paradigms into straightforward ideas, with practical worth, and impart useful advice for my clients.
I have a BA in philosophy with first-class honours from the University of York, and an MA from the University of Birmingham. A number of my papers have been published, and I was previously an editor of a philosophical journal.
I have been teaching for over four years. I am reliable, dedicated and professional. I have an exceptional history of helping students achieve success.
I am a professionally trained, passionate philosopher. I believe in helping students to achieve highly whilst also imparting some of what makes philosophy a wonderful subject. Despite what some people think, you absolutely can maximise both simultaneously. Learning should be fun and rewarding, but still results driven.
I have excellent communicative and interpersonal skills. Philosophy is hard, we will look at things together that some of the greatest minds of the last two and a half thousand years have struggled to grapple with, so although I can never make it easy, I can certainly make it easier. I want to help you appreciate the satisfaction of understanding and working with something that was originally very challenging.
I have taught a broad range of subjects in the UK and internationally periodically over the last 20 years.
I thoroughly prepare each lesson to meet the student's specific needs. I have taught A*- and E-grade students and, whatever the student's academic history, I bring clarity and order to complicated concepts, enabling them to acquire the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
I am extremely adaptable, and have taught mathematics, economics, politics, philosophy, business studies, history, close reading, literary analysis, and exam/essay technique, as well as devising and teaching a beginners’ business Russian course. I have significant TEFL experience, including at the Oxford English Centre.
Over 1000 hours teaching experience in the UK and Austria in English, EFL, Philosophy, Drama, and Music in academic environments.

I am a 36 year-old Lecturer of Politics and Philosophy. I teach courses in Modern Political Theory, Ideologies and Contemporary Political Philosophy. I also hold pastoral and academic support roles that include being the Director of Studies for first year students as well as the convener of the Politics Study Skills Seminar and the Politics Dissertation Seminar. In addition, I act as an external examiner for Colfe's - one of London's oldest independent schools - for their A-level Politics exams.
In addition to my lectureship post, I have been, for the past nine years, a private tutor to hundreds of A-level and university students from varied backgrounds and look forward to working with many more in years to come in view of helping more young minds reach their full academic potential.
I have experience teaching undergraduate courses in Philosophy and Theology at the University of Oxford and have also been involved with interviewing candidates applying to study Theology and Religion at Oxford.
The focus of my tutorials is to enable students to develop highly effective reasoning and innovative solutions to philosophical questions, that are grounded in a clear understanding of fundamental philosophical and theological concepts. By working with me students will grow in confidence in their ability to tackle new problems and to read the primary literature.
I have been tutoring Maths and Economics on the side of my studies for the past 7 years now. In addition to these subjects, I have a broad range of experience tutoring History - I got also national prize for my A-Level! I think that writing style is perhaps the most important thing you can develop during the GCSE/A-Level years, and I can help you make sure that you write in a clear, coherent and confident manner. Finally, I'm happy to help with those daunting UCAS applications, Oxbridge interviews, and any other aspect of university applications.
I have worked as a professional tutor and educational consultant for six years. I have taught dozens of students for thousands of hours in total. I have also worked as a teacher in an independent school in North London.
I have had many successful students; a few examples include:
>Two admitted to study HSPS at Cambridge.
>One admitted to all three of Westminster, Winchester, and St.Paul's for 13+.
>One who gained 84/84 marks in his A-Level Politics Paper 2, which is now being used as an exemplar.
>One who gained an A in A-Level History after being predicted a C.
I believe that the most important virtue in a tutor is the ability to empathise with a student's cognitive position. When teaching I aim to guide a student through the mental steps needed to accomplish the goal of the lesson.
I typically spend much of a lesson in dialogue with the student. I break this up with exercises to embed and reinforce key points, but I always end the lesson with a call to reflection on what the student has learned. I emphasise that knowledge is open-ended and interconnected.
I specialise in three key areas; the tutoring of primary school students, offering help with SATs, homework and entrance exams. Secondly, the tutoring of undergraduates studying education and psychology. Finally, English Literature tutoring across the board; from primary through to degree level.
As an education graduate, I am a keen learner and continue to develop my studies in many areas. I am now beginning a masters programme here at Cambridge. I have younger siblings in various stages of their education, with two younger sisters in primary school and one younger brother currently studying for his A Levels, so I know just how stressful and important this time can be.
I can also offer interview prep for Cambridge applicants, as well as support in completing applications.
