Neuroscience, Experimental Pscyhology - LMU (Munich), Oxford University

I have over 6 years of tutoring experience, both online and offline, and I absolutely LOVE teaching. Nothing gives more joy than being able to share your knowledge and allow others to reach their true potential!

I am a neuroscientist and psychologist by training. The nature of my professional qualification allows for my broad knowledge of natural science, psychology, neurobiology, research methods, and academic writing. Additionally, my PhD at the moment deals with how our brain integrates senses when we see products and labels, so I also have avenues of knowledge and expertise in Marketing and product design.

I have tutored psychology, neuroscience (cognitive, behavioral, neuropsychology), research methods (design, acquisition, analysis, understanding) and academic writing (being able to put all of the above into the high standard writing required from the academic community).

As an Oxford graduate, I can also consult on Oxbridge applications and help students successfully entered their Oxford University career with my help.

Tutoring stats 2018-2019:
Oxford Experimental Psychology entry: 5 successful candidates
Dissertations: 7, all marked 2.i and 1st
Essays: >10, average 1 class grade rise
Research projects: >10, average 1 class grade rise
Students tutored: 13

BA/MA English, Drama and Education - University of Cambridge

I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been Psychology, Sociology, academic writing skills, Business Studies and Research Methods. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with university students.

For Psychology and Sociology, I adopt a systematic approach, and generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations etc. I sometimes mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, to make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.

Experimental Psychology - Oxford

I am a very warm and friendly tutor and I explain all concepts in easy terms. I can give you all the tips and tricks to get the best out of your learning. I teach dozens of students every year in private tutorials (online and in person), summer schools and at University level. I have over 10 years of tutorial experience in A Level Psychology (AQA, Edexcel, IB, WJEC), teaching the full spectrum of students from high-grade pupils who want to make sure they get top grades to failing students who need to start from scratch. I also taught Psychology full-time as the Head of Psychology at a private UK secondary school and so I understand the constraints of classroom teaching and the problems it can cause for students. I did my own A Level Psychology course through distance learning so I completely understand what it's like to be stuck with certain topics and because of this I try to explain everything as clearly as possible and give each student clear goals to work towards. After receiving top grades in my A Levels, I went on to complete undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in Psychology.

Biological Science (Psychology) - University of Cambridge

I have 4 years of experience working as a student ambassador for the Cambridge Admissions Office. Through this role I have participated in several residential summer schools, assisting students with academic sessions in Psychology by ensuring that the students understood the material that was being covered in the lectures. I have also assisted during subject masterclasses in a variety of subjects, as well as giving presentations and providing advice on the university admission process. This has allowed me to remain up to date with the latest entrance requirements, as well as gain a first-hand look at the qualities that admission teams look for in a prospective student. I have also led sessions in my old school on writing a good personal statement and preparing for university interviews. In addition, I privately tutored friends in my spare time at university, both in Biology and Psychology, which allowed me to explore different ways of teaching and explaining complex ideas in easy-to-digest terms.

Psychology and Criminology & Post Graduate Degree in Criminal Justice - University of Northampton, University of Portsmouth

I have been tutoring for over 3 years now and mentoring for over 4 years.

My experience is tutoring A level Psychology and Sociology and I know the AQA Syllabus really well. This means I can provide you with expert knowledge and help.

Through my experience I know that for Psychology areas a lot of students struggle with is the 16 mark questions and research methods. Similarly for Sociology the bigger essay style questions are also a top area of concern. I ensure that all my students are confident with these areas to help them improve their grades and feel at ease when doing exams.

I also know the importance of revision skills and techniques which I help students develop. I use a variety of collaborative methods to help students learn and be motivated to enjoy the subject and our lessons.

When students are working with me they say how clear they feel after a lesson, how confident they feel going into exams and how much they find writing 16 mark essays now enjoyable.

Having tutored face to face I am confident using online technology which makes the student feel comfortable and at ease. I use a mix of powerpoints, quizzes, questions and answers, flashcards, ted talks, podcasts, youtube videos to help my students learn. I also fundamentally believe that no one student learns the same. So I always ensure to set specific goals for each individual and adapt my lesson to suit them and their learning style.

Education - University of Cambridge

I specialise in three key areas; the tutoring of primary school students, offering help with SATs, homework and entrance exams. Secondly, the tutoring of undergraduates studying education and psychology. Finally, English Literature tutoring across the board; from primary through to degree level.

As an education graduate, I am a keen learner and continue to develop my studies in many areas. I am now beginning a masters programme here at Cambridge. I have younger siblings in various stages of their education, with two younger sisters in primary school and one younger brother currently studying for his A Levels, so I know just how stressful and important this time can be.

I can also offer interview prep for Cambridge applicants, as well as support in completing applications.

PhD Sociology w Advanced Quantitative Methods - University of York

After completing my PhD, I taught research methods (including introductory and advanced quantitative methods) for four years as a full-time Teaching Fellow and Associate Lecturer in the Sociology Department at the University of York.

I convened a 150 student Social Research Methods module for 3 years and set and marked undergraduate and postgraduate coursework and assignments on a variety of different topics relating to research methods, SPSS, and data analysis. I've marked thousands of pieces of undergraduate coursework, as well as Masters coursework using advanced data analysis methods, such as regression, cluster analysis, factor analysis and many more.

As a supervisor at York I supervised around 40 undergraduate dissertations, and about 10 Masters dissertations. A good proportion of these students achieved 1st and starred 1st grades.

As a private tutor over the past two years I have tutored over 1000 hours with University students, University staff and professionals. Most of this work has been focused on helping undergraduate and postgraduate students with research methods and statistical analysis in SPSS.

I remain an active researcher within academia. My areas of scholarly interest are health, food, and quantitative and innovative methods. Two of the academic articles I have published in peer reviewed journals are listed below. The first paper in the list below was nominated for and awarded the Sociological Research Online award for Excellence and Innovation.

Chappell, P., Tse, M., Zhang, M. and Moore, S., 2017. Using GPS Geo-tagged Social Media Data and Geodemographics to Investigate Social Differences: A Twitter Pilot Study. Sociological Research Online, 22(3), pp.38-56.

Jenkins, L., Cosgrove, J., Chappell, P., Kheder, A., Sokhi, D. and Reuber, M., 2016. Neurologists can identify diagnostic linguistic features during routine seizure clinic interactions: results of a one-day teaching intervention. Epilepsy & Behavior, 64, pp.257-261.

Jonathan $50-60/hr

Brain and Mind Sciences - UCL

I teach students of varying levels (A-level to master's) in brain sciences (psychology and neuroscience), philosophy, as well as languages: English, Italian, and French. I recently tutored an MSc cognitive neuroscience student in writing her thesis; as well as an A-level student in learning about epistemology, moral philosophy and philosophy of mind. Both teaching experiences ended up being successful and long-term.

I recently helped a pupil apply for universities in the UK by helping him write his personal statement, check his courseworks, and hone his critical thinking skills. He got into his first choice university, and feels prepared for the upcoming exams.

As a research assistant at the Neurospin laboratory in Paris we often had students enter the laboratory to learn about neuroscientific research and the technologies we used. My role was to summarise complex information relating to brain processing and the technical equipment we used to groups of young students.

I taught music (guitar), helping the student engage with the topic creatively, as well as intellectually when explaining more difficult topics relating to musical theory and harmony.
