I have been teaching & tutoring Psychology, Research Methods & Academic writing (essays and reports) for over 7 years now to students of all ages whether mature students at undergraduate level & masters level; part time & full time students or seminar based and 1-1. This includes the joint UCL-Birkbeck Masters course for Critical Analysis which is a high level, rigorous module that develops the student's understanding in how to critique journal articles, how to remedy their shortcomings and writing future research or research proposals. I have also taught academic writing workshops, general foundations and was an honorary research fellow after graduating which led to the publication of my undergraduate dissertation.
Having trained as an outstanding A-level Psychology teacher with UCL (IOE) I can offer in depth exam technique for the new linear specification as I have worked closely with examiners & key authors of textbooks. I also offer assistance for writing structure, exam technique across degree and A-level.
I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been Psychology, Sociology, academic writing skills, Business Studies and Research Methods. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with university students.
For Psychology and Sociology, I adopt a systematic approach, and generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations etc. I sometimes mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, to make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.
I am a very warm and friendly tutor and I explain all concepts in easy terms. I can give you all the tips and tricks to get the best out of your learning. I teach dozens of students every year in private tutorials (online and in person), summer schools and at University level. I have over 10 years of tutorial experience in A Level Psychology (AQA, Edexcel, IB, WJEC), teaching the full spectrum of students from high-grade pupils who want to make sure they get top grades to failing students who need to start from scratch. I also taught Psychology full-time as the Head of Psychology at a private UK secondary school and so I understand the constraints of classroom teaching and the problems it can cause for students. I did my own A Level Psychology course through distance learning so I completely understand what it's like to be stuck with certain topics and because of this I try to explain everything as clearly as possible and give each student clear goals to work towards. After receiving top grades in my A Levels, I went on to complete undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees in Psychology.
I have 4 years of experience working as a student ambassador for the Cambridge Admissions Office. Through this role I have participated in several residential summer schools, assisting students with academic sessions in Psychology by ensuring that the students understood the material that was being covered in the lectures. I have also assisted during subject masterclasses in a variety of subjects, as well as giving presentations and providing advice on the university admission process. This has allowed me to remain up to date with the latest entrance requirements, as well as gain a first-hand look at the qualities that admission teams look for in a prospective student. I have also led sessions in my old school on writing a good personal statement and preparing for university interviews. In addition, I privately tutored friends in my spare time at university, both in Biology and Psychology, which allowed me to explore different ways of teaching and explaining complex ideas in easy-to-digest terms.
For the past year, I have taught A level psychology under the new OCR exam specification. Resultantly, I have THE MOST up to date knowledge and resources to help you with your Psychology A level.
I have taught every aspect of the OCR Psychology specification and as such, I am experienced in tailoring specific content to various levels of ability.
I am also very experienced with the use of statistical software packages such as SPSS, JASP and HUDAP. If you wish tutoring on these programmes, get in touch!
I specialise in three key areas; the tutoring of primary school students, offering help with SATs, homework and entrance exams. Secondly, the tutoring of undergraduates studying education and psychology. Finally, English Literature tutoring across the board; from primary through to degree level.
As an education graduate, I am a keen learner and continue to develop my studies in many areas. I am now beginning a masters programme here at Cambridge. I have younger siblings in various stages of their education, with two younger sisters in primary school and one younger brother currently studying for his A Levels, so I know just how stressful and important this time can be.
I can also offer interview prep for Cambridge applicants, as well as support in completing applications.
I have a very successful track record as a tutor of enabling my students and clients to meet the many challenges they face as they work towards a range of qualifications form GSCE to University degrees at all levels up to doctoral level. Over the last year in particular and my role as a Profs lecturer I have had many clients achieve their potential and beyond in relation to developing their academic writing, developing their understanding of the research process, competing dissertations while under pressure, grappling with statistics (SPSS) and research design and analysis within both quantitative (survey design, descriptive and inferential statistics) and qualitative research methods (thematic , discourse analyses and grounded theory). Many of these students were majoring in psychology, some in sport ,physical educations and dance and others in general education degrees. In addition, I have successfully supported a number of doctoral students who were experiencing difficulties within their doctoral journey and a range of students completing their final dissertations. My key strengths lie within the area of research and research methods and due to my own range of academic and professional experience I can tutor across a diverse range of subject areas. In summary I have worked with students for over 20 years and now have successfully embraced working as a very experienced online tutor.
I have previously tutored Psychology online and delivered 1-1 statistics lessons. Furthermore, for the past and present academic years, I have been working as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant for Methodology and Statistics in UCL, which includes supporting students in SPSS seminars and marking assignments. Additionally, since September 2019, I have been employed in a UCL programme that aims to help non-native English speaking students with academic writing. I consider my previous tutoring experience valuable, since through it I've learnt what are the main difficulties students may face and how to help them overcome them.
I am focused and driven; I tutored for Kaplan Test Prep for 20-years serving 10,000 students. My students dominate exams; I am very excited for them and for the opportunities that lay ahead of them!!
